I’m finally getting ready to order a 22 Creed barrel for a Tikka build. I have pretty much all the specs decided but I’m struggling with paralysis by analysis on the barrel length. It will be a suppressed rifle and the goal is to keep it as short as possible. I can’t make up my mind between a 16 or an 18.
I’m thinking 7.5 twist, .120 FB. I want to try the 88’s first but will probably do some stuff with the 80 grainers as well eventually.
I’d like to be around 2850-2900 MV with the 88. Can I realistically hit that with a 16” barrel without pushing the limits on pressure? Or should I just go with an 18?
With Hornady or alpha brass yes. I can run 90smks at 3200 with Ramshot grand in 18” with Hornady brass. I loaded the 80eldms at 3000 in my buddy’s 16” with h1000. These were with .080” freebore. .120 should be even better. 7.5” should be perfect for 16” speeds with the 80&88.
You running a brake, suppressor, or bare muzzle?
