The 22 creedmoor thread

Put a 75gr ELDM in a big boars ear hole at 50 yards today and he never even made a sound. Didn’t weight him but I’m about 215 lbs and I could not budge him by myself more than a few inches with a rope tied around a leg. Called in the cavalry and 3 of us got him loaded up along with some grown sows and a piglet a buddy shot with a 223 shooting 70gr TTSX’s.

That shoat on the far left is begging for "pig on the half-shell treatment"! That is a hammer of a boar as well.

How do they eat? Is it pretty lean meat compared to farm raised slaughter pigs?

They are much leaner than farm-raised, unless you happen to get one that has been feeding in peanut fields for the last month or so and isn't traveling much. Even then, they won't have as much fat on them. Also, if they spend a lot of time in the same area, eating the same thing, they can start to taste a bit like their food source. Not a problem when they are hanging out near peanut or corn fields. Not a good thing when they are near a dirty river or trash dump. Biggest thing with them is that uncut boars will have boar taint after about 2-years old and most of them will have Trichinosis, so you have to cook it properly.

Yes pretty lean. Back where I’m from there are crops everywhere they tasted much better. Out here in the desert not as good. I mainly just eat the piglets out here or smaller shoats. Headshot, gut and skin them then put them on the smoker whole. Back home ppl would turn the bigger ones into sausage. Some of these bigger desert boars are so nasty the coyotes and buzzards won’t even touch them.

I shot a few with 22 Creedmoor and 69 gr Sierra game changers. It worked but I prefer the 6mm and 6.5mm rounds. Some of my shots are 450 yards with a stiff crosswind.

Has anyone used a Proof prefit in 22 CM? If so, do you know the freebore?

I can call them Monday, but was curious to see if anyone had that info handy. I may pick up a prefit for my Terminus Zeus, which would be quite a bit cheaper than buying a Tikka to rechamber, scope, etc.

Proof uses a 0.125" freebore in their 22 Creed prefits. Got that info from Proof.

Boar at 250yds
18”bbl 80gr eldm at 2950fps

He was facing away quartering to the right. Put one in the boiler room and he ran 50yds and dropped. Bullet did not exit.

I was at sportsman's a couple days ago and the 6mm 103eldx were $50!

I think the 22 cals were almost $40.

Maybe Hornady bullets have gone up recently...

I was hoping I was going to be able to update this thread with a pic of a dead cow today, but I suck. Wind kicked my butt and I didn't get to see any carnage from an 88 eldm

Missed a wind call with the shot? Or just wind in general had the animals tucked away?

Missed the wind call. At my position it was at like 4:30-5 o clock. When I went to look for blood it was more like 7-8 o clock most of the way to where they were. Elk was looking right and I held edge of chest or slightly off for the 10-12 mph wind.
