Went out this morning, around 45f. Tried my SR brass with Superformance and CCI 450’s and was met with delayed ignition… enough to perceive the firing pin drop as a separate action immediately prior bullet firing.

Velocities were lower than expected with this combo as well. 2520 fps average out of a 16.5” barrel and 38.5gr Superformance.

Ordered some LR, so we’ll so how those work out. I’m happy to finally have this rifle together.

That stinks, I was gonna try superformance powder till I got reading about temp stability of it. I'm using RL23 now. Around 3300fps 22 inch barrel. Gonna clean some brass an try Varget, 4350, RL 16 an 6.5 staball. See how they do.

I mentioned the temp just to show that the issue with small rifle primers isn’t limited to freezing temps. I’ll report back after I try the large rifle primers with Superformance

Has anyone burned a barrel up yet?

Yep. First one was shooting 88’s really well then went to pot. Groups opened up to shotgun patterns at 100 yards. Think that barrel had about 1000 rounds if I remember right. On the second right now and did the same thing at 700 rounds. Switched to shooting 77 tmk’s and it still groups 10 shots at about 1.5 moa so hunted with that this fall.

Have just shy of 700 rounds on my first barrel. I'll shoot a group when I get my Rokstok, which will probably be around the 750 to 800 mark, and see where it's at.

Started blowing up the 88s at 400-500 rounds. Pulled it and screwed on a rechambered tikka 22-250. Accuracy was still good on the first one but about 1 in 15 would go poof. Might revisit that barrel when this one is burnt out

What barrel length and velocity were you blowing them up at? I blew up a couple on a really hot day with a hot barrel, but that stopped after a cleaning and backing off the load a grain.

1:7 twist 26” barrel. 3080fps. Something funky with that barrel could never get velocity I expected and tried several powders. But it was very accurate. After this barrel is done I may screw it back on and use something less prone to blow ups just to get the full life out of it. I also have a tubbs final finish kit that I never got around to trying. Pretty happy with the (cheaper) tikka 22-250 rechambered into 22 creedmoor.

Both my barrels were tikka factory barrels that started as new 223 and rechambered. Initial accuracy was great but was hoping for longer life I guess. I wasn’t easy on them either though.

My reamer made specifically for the 88’s uses .170”. That puts the bearing surface of the 88’s ~.050” above the neck shoulder junction. With the 22CM going this long isn’t an issue at all with magazine length. For a more universal chambering (bullet choice) I’d go shorter and not worry at all where the bearing surface with the 88’s land. I did it because I can and I have the means to cut and re-chamber if I like at anytime.

Yea, I think I will lean more towards the 77/80 class of bullets, and possibly try the 88's. So probably will go less than .170.

Did you get a chance to try it out? I decided to play with 77 TMK and H4350 while I wait for the LR brass. Started very conservatively with 37.0 grains, which yielded 2820 fps out of a 16.5” barrel. I wish there was more published load data for H4350.

I'm planning on it Thursday. Gonna load some up tonight or tomorrow night an go out Thursday. Suppose to be 45 that morning. I'm gonna shoot some 75eld with RL23 that I have already loaded then gonna try 4350, RL16, Varget an 6.5 Staball in the Alpha SRP an Peterson LRP see how they do. Friend is running 41.5 of 4350 an avg 4450 out of 22 inch 1 in 8 twist barrel same as I got.

Wanting to use a 'Lee FCD crimp die' to crimp some hammer bullets, but they don't make one in 22creed. I should be able to use a 22-250 crimp die right?

You may or may not have to use a thin shim washer under the collet on top of the shell-holder because the 22CM base to neck/shoulder is ~.015-.016" longer than the 22-250. I have a Lee 22-250 collet but I haven't set it up on the 22CM yet to actually prove it out.

Thanks! I'll watch out for premature contact or whatever might be off

Got my Labradar back and shot some of the 77 tmk loads over 39.5 grains of h4350 while zeroing my thermal. Velocities were only in the 3050 fps range. Still no ignition problems with the 4350 cci 450 combo at least.
