The 22 creedmoor thread

Still working on break in, almost to 150 rounds. Liking what 4831sc is giving me.

Alpha is all once fired now. Thankfully And for those wondering, I didn’t have a problem using a 6 creed collet with a 22 cutter on my giraud. Was going to manually trim but after a couple I remembered why I stopped using that thing.

4831 and Peterson made a nice 4” group in the center of the target at 400. Hard thing is that this rifle gets so hot it takes a while to shoot a bunch.

It looks like I landed at just north of 3500 fps with R17 in the 1:8 18" .218 barrel. No pressure signs other than a partially flat primer. Backed off a bit from 3600fps as warm day was giving me ejector marks. 70gr monos. 5/8" groups on a breezy day and I'm ready to hunt, after I verify at 500 yards anyhow.

2780 with 41 of 4831sc and an almost broken in barrel. Will hit the gas a little more after this first firing but I don’t see me going much over 2850.

Shooting well. Happy with the barrel thus far.

Peterson virgin brass is all over on headspace, hopefully that gets better after a couple firings.

Well wore out my first barrel. Bought it used with about 150 rounds down it I was told. I put about another 900 through it.

Picked up a couple factory 223 compact barrels and sent them off to get reamed. New barrel is spun on and about 153 shots down it. Used hybrid 100v to start again. First barrel was hitting pressure at 42 gr. This barrel I loaded 15 at 39, 39.5 and 10 at 40 and 40.5 to break in the barrel. Next 50 at 40 and another 50 at 40.5. At 85° shooting temp I’m seeing very slight pressure at 40.5. Barrel is shooting very well though. Using it in the cold bore challenge. First round hit at 606 this morning.

EDIT : Using the 88 ELDM bullet

Who ya using to chamber the .223 barrels and how much do they charge? I’ve got $700 burning a hole in my pocket and eying a 1:8 22-250 at my local shop…

Where you located? Many guys clambering for 22 creed, prefits as well. I have whaley here in north idaho doing one for me rite now.

I’m in South Dakota. Was less expensive going this route then a prefit.

Baldwin Gunworks out of Illinois. Between buying the barrels shipping and having them reamed I’ve got just over $500 into 2 barrels.

Bart baldwin does good work and has a quick turn around he did a handful of 22 grendel barrels for me.

Anyone loading Hammer Absolute 62gr or 69gr bullets for their 22 Creeds?

Im gonna try it and was hoping for about 3500 fps out of a 26” barrel.

I read a faster powder like Varget might work well on the lightish 62 grainers.

Just put on my 22 creedmoor barrel. First rodeo with this cartridge.

Tikka action
PVA 1:7 barrel nut prefit, 26” Brux #4 contour

Slapped it together with a swfa 3-9 in a factory stock that I had previously inletted for a different heavy barrel.

Using alpha 22cm SRP with CCI 41s, 88eldm, 38.0gr h4350

Went back about 80 though from the lands, roughly.

First three on the chrono 3050, 3070, 3090, 3090. Had some pressure signs.

Next 6 onto the target. Pressure signs disappeared.

She’s gonna be a shooter!

Do you have a photo of how that PVA barrel nut prefit looks screwed onto the action, and the Brux4 contour? I was tempted by the sale.

Weight is 3lb 9oz on the barrel alone at 26”

Around the middle of the video the gentlman referrs to a new "ELD" hunting bullets. He catches himself before he finishes. He doesn't mention anything else other then the "new" bullet will be designed for medium game. Anyone else heard any rumors from hornady?

Have not watched that video but a few other recent ones they did. He refers to really liking the 75-80 gr bullet weight. In the video “22 questions about the 22 creedmoor” he mentions in passing an 80 gr eldx. If I had to guess Hornady is making the eldx in some 22 cal bullets. Only a guess.
