Long time lurker, first time poster.

I’ve used this forum a ton to research my depredation elk hunt I’m currently doing in Arizona.

From this forum I’ve learned gear, glassing, stalking and other techniques.

This paid off today when my son shot a 300+ elk who still has velvet.

We saw them when we drove up and glassed them into a finger on a hill.

My son walked around and sat on a hill behind them and waited in the Arizona son for 4 hours.

They finally came out and started running. He missed his first shot and had to chase after them. He made a dive to prone and nailed a double lung on his second shot at 350yds while they were running up hill.

For perspective my son is 5’11.5

He was shooting a 7mm mag.

Ya it’s a very low success hunt. Basically elk are eating the farmers grass and they complained so otc tags were offered for the area.

They have a few otc hunts in the regs this year.

Congrats! There’s a ton of great info on here and lots of helpful people who are willing to share info. I was a longtime lurker as well.
