I've had no complaints. you can only go to touchless car washes, and in the winter it will get ice that forms and has to be knocked off when the wetness from melting snow freezes, but otherwise no issues.

Hard to take on and off? Have a bakflip on mine all the time but would be cool to swap to the softopper for hunting season then swap back if its not a huge production each time

Takes less than 10 minutes. It's 2 pins and the 4 clamps. You can also undo the buttons and just fold the whole thing forward so you have the entire bed available if you are somewhere and don't have the ability to remove it. Again, I think a hard shell is probably better if you don't mind having a shell on all the time, but the versatility of the softtopper is pretty great.

Depending on the length of time I'm out will determine whether I stay in the back of my truck or setup my Kodiak tent. Each option has its pros and cons. I was in southern AZ a few weeks back and I put this video together of my truck bed setup. Hopefully this helps you a bit.

Good tip with the lid holding the bag. Had to eat a 1/2 cold meal last time I was out

I am a big fan of the KUIU 1 person summit star. I bring it even when I plan on sleeping in the car. Gives me the versatility of packing up and hiking away from the car if need be. Even though it's a lightweight 1 person tent it feels like a 3-man because of the vestibule. It's very comfortable, roomy, and warm. If you're going to invest in a sleeping system for western hunting I can't speak highly of it enough. I don't have any experience with a topper.

Ive been looking hard at the 2 person mountain star. Hows the length on the 1 person? Im 6-5 so curious how much room there is.

There's lighter less bulky options but when I'm camping alone and want quick I have a Kodiak 2 man Flexbow, dang thing is so cute lmao. Topper won't work for me because I always have too much crap and don't want to have to unload the truck bed to sleep. The little Kodiak I can sprawl out nicely and it's just big enough to put a cot in there if I wanna.

I have the 4 man. Helluva canvas tent. Sets up and takes down super quickly and really durable. I did the rooftop tent for years but have really enjoyed this tent. It is not cheap though but will last a lifetime. Got tired of using my little tipi for a base camp tent. crazy that they both have the same footprint. Heres a shot of it during a mountain bike event we had last weekend. Set it up as a changing room/hangout spot.

How is the setup by yourself? Ill always be solo so fast easy setup would be a top concern for me

I have the 10x14 and set it up myself, as well as the their smallest version. All the stakes are the most time consuming part, then you put the spring bars and to rail together and lift the whole thing up. It's fast no matter what size.

Super easy. Once you do it a few times, less than 10 minutes. Agree, stakes are the toughest part, but in a rush you can just stake the corners.
