I've been scouring forums and getting ideas for a tent for our Alaska drop off hunt next fall. Originally we had a camp package booked for our hunt that was supposed to be this year, but things fell apart and we scheduled our hunt with a different transporter for next year and they do not have any camp rentals available. Right now we're scheduled to fly in August 6th, but have a request with the transporter to shift the dates towards the end of August if any groups cancel. We're pretty good with the rest of our camp, but picking the right tent for something like this is the top of our to-do list. The hunting we do here in Oregon we use my big wall tent or our single man tents if we're hunting mobile. But the idea of being in the Brooks Range and having a tent fail due to wind/rain/snow with no easy way out is worrisome.

I'm torn on going with one of the Seek Outside teepee styles tents, with fear of holding up in adverse weather. Looked into a few of the dome style tents that have been recommended on here as well. I don't necessarily plan on taking a stove, unless we end up buying one and we have extra the weight available. Another idea we're throwing around is doing a dome style tent for sleeping and a teepee style for hanging out, cooking/eating, etc. but only if the weight pans out. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I take my Kifaru Sawtooth to Alaska when I am solo or with a buddy. Doesn’t matter if it is August or November. Tried 4,6, and 8man tipis and the Sawtooth is WAY more efficient IMO.

Two years ago we took a tipi for two to Alaska. It sucked. Wet with no stove had condensation raining inside.

This year we took two two-man tents, also for two people. Much more comfortable. Fortunately, we didn't have the kind of all day bad weather where you want a full chair to sit in. It was much more comfortable and you have you're own gear mess.

Borrowed a Hilleburg Nallo 4 GT this year and it worked well for 2 people with the larger vestibule. I really wished I could have also had a tipi for the room to sit in chairs when the weather was really bad. If you take a tipi make sure you have the liner.

Hilleberg. Red or black label. Why risk it on a drop off hunt. You could take something less durable and be completely ok but if your tent fails on day 3, I’m guessing in the moment you would pay triple to have that hilleberg there. Currently some good deals on hillebergs website under “specials”. Soulo or Unna would be my choice, then you can run it in the lower 48 solo as well. Not having the vestibule in the Unna isn’t an issue, if it’s wet and you want a vestibule for the day, just unclip one end of the inner tent and you have a vestibule.

There's a guy in Eagle River that rents Arctic Ovens (I believe with stoves), for something like $40/day. If you're traveling through Anchorage, that might be a good option for you. You absolutely won't find a more comfortable and bomb proof tent than an AO.

The Cabelas Alaskan guide tents used to be the best value by far when they offered the aluminum poles. So far I’m not seeing that option, just fiberglass which is heavier and flex’s more in the wind….

The Igloo made by Arctic Oven is similar but 3-4x the cost
