This is great advice.
This will be my 4th 30-06, the others didn’t have any memorable recoil.
It’s a mountain rifle, it’s going to sting a little in some positions after a box or so….
What would you suggest?

I see you are in WNC like myself, im guessing most of your hunting is in the region, therefore long shots are maybe 300yds max, often much less.
Options are nearly endless.
6.5 creed is an obvious choice, TONS of cheap up to pricier ammo options on the shelf, mild recoil
My Tikka is in 308, most of .30-06 perf with a bit less recoil, even more ammo options
243 is attractive to me, faster, flatter, much less recoil, very common ammo, proven performer
270 has been getting it done for 100 years. recoil with 130gr about the same as 308 with 150gr but a good bit faster and therefore flatter trajectory
6 Creed, 7mm-08, the list goes on and on. Many will advocate for 223. I dont doubt its capabilities...results dont lie, but for medium and large game its not my pick.
anecdotal evidence: my 308 out of the box was OK to shoot.....borderline not fun for multiple magazines. The limbsaver changed it to shooting multiple boxes was no problem at all.
