77 TMK at about 2700 fps on a largeish (400 pound) hog that refuseed to cooperate after I put his pen mate down with a 22 lr. Shot hit behind the right eye socket, punched through the cranial vault and out the other side, the bullet was found between the offside skull and fat while cutting off the jowl bacon. I was going to halve it with a sawzall, but is the skull crunched, decided to dissect down.

The skull was literally fractured in half.

For reference, a 410 just punches a caliber sized whole through the skull. Unfortunately I can say from experience that a 410 that misses the cranial valt will not stun a pig, a 77 TMK that misses will still stun it with performance very similar to a correctly placed 22 lr.

Reference of a smaller pig stunned with a 22 lr, you can actually see the remains of the 22 bullet between the skull and brain, it lacked the force to puncture the membranes around the brain after going through the skull, which is why a 22 only stuns them.

Finger is on the entry, knife tip on the exit, the jowls have already been removed, so an inth of tissue is missing on the exit side.View attachment 758012View attachment 758011View attachment 758010

The bullet, in this case it tis not completely come apart and the lead remained in the base. There was also a slurry of lead flakes in the area the bullet stopped.View attachment 758009

Those are chuncks of solid bone that were fractured and I could flip up with my fingers.

The tip of the knife is touching the first bit of solid bone towards the nose and my finger is inline with the first bit of solid bone towards the back. I could rock the front and back independently and feel the bottom of the cranial vault was shattered similarly to the top with my fingers.

This skull had fractures through areas more than 1 inch thick, this is solid bone, not hollow bones with marrow like the legs/ribs/pelvis.

I am beyond impressed. The bullet itself passed through 1.5 inches of bone.
This post has pictures of a 77 gr TMK that demolished the skull of a largish bore. The bullet itself passed through 1.5 inches of bone total and fractured thicker areas of the skull, literally breaking it in halve between the nose and rear.

Bull elk humerus at the scapula joint, prob the thickest bit of bone in the front half. 143eldx somewhere around 2000fps, but I’d venture the 140eldm would do the same.

Gosh I just don't think I have any interest in using non bonded bullets for hunting any more. Too much meat wasted. All well and dandy if there are nice broadsides but blowing a shoulder to sh!t just ain't it for me.

I think if you hit it right on the knuckle like above pretty much any bullet is going to splinter the bone like above, but I'm totally guessing at that. In the above example the bullet continued on into the chest cavity which is probably the more useful info.

To your point, Ioaded 168TMKs for a friend on the same hunt and he put the first shot into the neck, that did destroy a lot of meat, enough that the processor call and asked WTF he shot it with.

I think you need to shoot a bigger bullet from a larger cartridge…

It’s what my daughter picks from the safe, it’s her favorite one to shoot!

That's a cougar shot with a 147 eld m @ 3270 fps from a 264 win mag at 20 yards.

I've killed a bunch of animals at 20-730 yards with 6.5mm target bullets and never had an issue.

I've had equal results with 147 eldm, 156 berger, 140 berger and 143 eld x. Almost all of them from a 264 with mag. 156s only in a 6.5 prc.

How do you like that knife? I just randomly ordered one because I like the light weight and thought the cork handle wold be perfect when wet/bloody.

Buddy and I broke down 4 elk w it last year. It was the preferred knife out of 3 or 4 different ones in use. I did touch up the blade during use, but not necessary. Hopefully trying out the Canadian belt knife on a couple animals this year.

Yep still have cases of 168 Amax for my 308. Still IMO one of the best killing bullets ive used.

Any pics? I’ll be using them this year out of a 308, just curious!

Here's my blacktail buck from last year. 168 AMAX from a .308, impact velocity 2428 fps, 130 yards. Distance traveled 3 yards, dropped immediately, kicked and rolled downhill then stopped. Bullet entered behind onside shoulder, hole punched the fifth rib from the front, fragmented through the heart & lungs, smashed offside humorous creating some bone shrapnel (see last picture) and came to a stop against the offside hide.
