Buyer's remorse is a fact of life. A few years back I spent big (for me) money to buy THE top of the line hi-def spotter....several grand. The brand isn't important to my point; which is that we sometimes think x purchase will be fabulous....and then later on realize it didn't quite measure up to our expectations. Nothing was wrong with the product at all, but I realized (to me) it wasn't worth what I spent on it and I didn't actually benefit from the purchase. I sold it and learned a lesson.

I bought my current favorite binoculars from EuroOptic. They sent them to me on approval and gave me a couple weeks to assess them. I compared them to plenty of glass....higher and lower priced....and kept them. They are exactly what I need for how I hunt...not more or less....and I don't have unnecessary money invested.

I think Kevin really nailed it with his posts. Whether the SLCs are worth the upgrade or not to you personally will be different for each person. I currently use SLCs and an ED50 as my primary glassing setup. It works for me, however I know many individuals who do not agree the extra costs of the SLC are worth it to them.

Doesn’t matter what it is. Usually but not always, the money spent is forgotten when you are using something that is a “buy once cry once” piece of equipment.

Another way to ask this question is what would you rather have, a pair of Swaros, or a pair of Viper HD's or Leupy BX-4's AND a $1K custom rifle. :D Because that's what we're talking price difference wise.

That's the way I look at it too, for me it was get the Viper HD's and go on an elk hunt in the same year. Or, get the Swaro's and go on an elk hunt the next year.

Will you find more animals? Doubt it.
Are SLCs better than Razors? Yes
Are the SLC $800 better?? No.
I own both.
This can’t be true. I read on the blogs that swarovision actually highlights game with a green outline as they move through the field
of view. If this is in fact true, clearly Swaros will see much more game and actually make me a better hunter. My buddy said after purchasing his Swaros he actually became a better shot too! ;).

True story here. four days ago on a coues hunt my brother was setting up to shoot a buck at very last light in some thick brush. I was using 12x ELs and my buddy 12x razors. I told him don’t shoot there’s a dead gray branch in front of the bucks shoulder. My buddy says are you sure because i don’t see it. I said yes I’m sure. We waited for the buck to clear the branch and my brother still missed since he was shooting a 7 mag instead of 6.5 hipster.

The difference between $2k glass and $1k glass won’t rear its head in the store or in a 15 minute comparison but it will if you use them in hunting conditions. If you have the funds it’s the best hunting investment you can make.

6.5 would’ve obliterated that branch, killed, gutted, quartered and bagged that deer.

I see no difference in clarity and I had 2019 EL sv field pro
You need to learn how to evaluate glass, the elsv have perfect edge to edge clarity and the color is perfect. Slcs wash out color a little bit and have some edge distortion. Razors have lots of edges distortion, shitty yellow tint to their colors and poor CA control.

you can get 10x42 SLC HDs on ebay for <$1100 if you are patient and check every day for a few months. You can try them and if you dont like them or dont think its worth it you can sell for more than you paid or easily break even.

I’m sort of in the same boat, looking for a significant upgrade to optics over what I have and I’m eyeballing the Swaros... I understand if someone simply doesn’t have the money for it... but I know plenty of guys driving 60k trucks and going on multiple out of state hunting trips a year that say they can’t “afford” it.

What’s an extra $1k-$2k over the lifetime of a purchase?

Obviously optics will last multiple lifetimes given they’re taken care of and no accidents happen.. but let’s say you get 20yrs of service out of them...

20yrs = 7,300 days
$2,000 / 7,300 days = Only ~$0.27 per day... what’s the big deal 🤷🏻‍♂️
