On a scale of 1-10, how do you rate the BTX eyepiece (especially for high power glassing)? Secondly, is the Slik 624 tripod really insufficient for this big sucker? If so, whaddaya recommend to get the most our it?

Sorry I’m not a BTX user but I believe BTX’s are fixed power based off which objective you mate it up to.

I run a RRS 24L all the time. I’ll be deep in Idaho with it next week. Heavy but worth it once I get my 15’s or STX on there.

I don't own them but have used my buddies a few times.

Call The Outdoorsman in AZ....they sell lot of them and have a bunch of guys using them.

I can tell you the balancing plate and a solid tripod is a must [my buddy uses the outdoorsman tripod and head]

Eyepiece; Ha! so here's an example for you. I was working with my buddy a guide in N AZ last year and one day we were side by side, him the BTX me with my 15x Zeiss. He spots a group of 6 bulls together and tells me where they are. I can't find them....I finally jump on the BTX and Bam....there they are- crazy far out. We find their location on his phone GPS and they were 6.5 miles away.

The Swaro Eyepiece is plenty good......

....

Had a similar experience with my guide, my Swaro SLC 15X56 saw nothing. The BTX was a movie screen. I tested em next to my Vortex 80 in a store and didn't see much difference but now that I've seen em in the field, got one. Still looking for a case that will accept the whole unit with extender. Not easy.

I got mine this summer and have hunted about a dozen days so far this year with it. As was mentioned it doesn't have a variable zoom. I have the 65mm objective which is 30x power as well as the 85mm objective. The 95mm objective gives you 35x.

No problems at all with the eye piece. I've spent hours upon his behind it.

As far as tripods, I've used it with an outdoorsman's and their pan head. It works fine, but since I've been using it mostly standing I started using a manfrotto tripod and 701hdv head. My outdoorsman's will work, but the problem is that I have the medium with center extender. By the time I get it extended the top half is much longer than the bottom.

I'm certainly glad I purchased the btx.

Bruce, I have a Manfrotto tripod for you if you want to try one.

Perfect, once the scope arrives we can meet at the range and get some target practice in. Which range is better for long distance viewing of the two rifle ranges near you?

Stellar experience for me with the BTX on the 624 slik with the Outdoorsmans Pan Head. At first I thought the head wouldn’t be big enough, but the BTX balances so well that you don’t need a lot of head power to run it.

Good to hear...I'll run it with the tripods I've got first and compare em to Bubblehide's Outdoorsman model before making any new purchases. Just ordered this for it. Was half the price of the Swaro covers.

Ready for this month's No. AZ deer hunt. 200 buck or better! Finger's crossed!

Thanks for the intel on Elusive cover! That looks like a winner! I have the new Outdoorsman fluid head on a medium tall tripod and absolutely love it! The BTX is a game changer (I hate that word) especially with the 1.7x module. Good luck in AZ!!!

The head matters more than the tripod. I have zero issues running mine with a 624 or 634 and the Outdoorsman's pan head. It will even run with the ME adapter on the BTX.

For finding animals I don't think you can beat the BTX.

I got to use a btx on a 5 day hunt last year. It was an absolute dream to look through and could spot game like crazy. The fixed eyepiece is a bummer, depending on the specific hunt anyways. In a perfect world a guy would have both the btx and atx/stx eyepieces. As far as tripod it was on a big class 7 slik with large manfrotto head. I didn't really want any less, especially the head.

Konex makes a great cover, AZ made

My scope and covers arrived today and my SLIK 624CF tripod is more than up to the task however, once I put the 1.7 extender in, the balance is lost and I obviously need a better head. It's a lotta glass. LOL
Which Manfrotto (or other) head do you guys recommend?

Dang, I hadn’t thought about that extender throwing it off

Today I put the BTX on my @Outdoorsmans Micropan paired with their window mount. I had my doubts, but I’ll be! It works. The BTX alone is very balanced.

After talking with different people and sponsors on rokslide I ended up purchasing a Monfrotto 410JR from one of their sponsors. Lighter weight penalty, all the same features of it's bigger brothers in a smaller package and half the price. The glass with extender is 6.75lbs so I am told I don't need the bigger models. Will try it out and see.
