Suppressor wait times

What’s the reasoning behind this? You’re basically adding another month! I got certified the same day I did electronic paperwork at my lgs.

Agree with this. We have multiple small shops in my town that you can walk in and have a suppressor bought and submitted or "certified" in the same day. The local shop I use only requires half down on suppressor purchases and the other half when the stamp gets approved. Nice to not have to shell out the full amount with nothing in return for a year.

Yes, Silencer Shop and Silencer Central. Silencer Central is the one that ships directly to you. They are a direct to customer vendor. Silencer Shop is a distributor that allows customers to pay them directly, but the actual transaction (paperwork) goes through a local dealer that is in their network.

Dave, you are also confused. The two places are nowhere near equal. Silencer Shop has the largest inventory in the country and, in my opinion, has helped significantly to make suppressors mainstream. Their kiosks, simple trusts, and extremely large dealer network have made it possible for people to get through the process easily and much quicker than if we were still using our local FFLs to handle everything.

I get that you don't like SC and are POed that it took a bit longer to get your suppressor than you thought it should, but take it from someone who has been in the game for a long time. It is never going to be a quick process. If you want to play the NFA game, you have to be patient.

Regarding SS, none of my local shops carry the cans that I wanted to buy but most of them were silencer shop dealers. It seems like they didn't have an excuse to stock too many of them when they make a decent commission off of purchases made through SS. However, I found a much better deal from another vendor so I bought from them online, they transferred to my local FFL, and then I did the paperwork through him and submitted. I did it all through SS and the single shot trusts. It was a smooth process and I don't have to wait for them to ship my cans when they clear so I'm happy with it. I have no beef with them. For the first time buyer, they're great. Now I have my own EFT files so I'm less inclined to use them


I submitted a 2 form 1s and 2 form 4s in mid January. I got one form 1 back around 50 days, and the next one took 80. The brace rule really messed up the approval times and it seems to be luck of the draw on who your reviewer is. I'm sure the form 4s are going to be quite a while. Just hoping I can get them before next rifle season in November.

Wanting two more cans so I'm going to go ahead and get those in because the wait times aren't getting any shorter.

My local shop just dropped Silencer Shop And silencers. Had a kiosk and inventory, now nothing. Said the time required to sell a silencer was too high for what they made.

Why so many modular setups? Just curious. Seems like if you were going to but that many, you could go dedicated.

Fair question. They're mostly dedicated to specific rifles and uses.

The 45-cal suppressors are for a 450 Bushmaster (jacketed) and a 45-70 (lead), so their modularity is a side benefit, but not the intent.

Optimus Micro is intended to be an inexpensive, lightweight, direct thread .223 hunting suppressor that would provide the option for 22LR being a takedown.

Resistance 22M came free with the Bushwhacker 46, so that's simply a nice-to-have. Somewhat redundant with the Optimus Micro, but that's alright.

That leaves the Omega 36M, which I actually bought with true modularity in mind. I figured I can use that on about any mid caliber rifle or smaller, and if I want to play around with a suppressed pistol, I've got the option.

Well and that's about the best use case for those cans! Kudos to all of the cool stuff coming in. I'm waiting on a AB Raptor 10 in 30cal and a AB Little Bird (.22). I'm also going to pick up 2 more within a month.

Another .22 can so I can have one for myself and my son to squirrel hunt with within the next couple of years when he gets older. Thinking a cheaper CGS Hydra for this one. That will let me dedicate one to pistols and one to rifles when not in hunting use.

The next one I'm torn on. Another 30cal can (Hyperion or Nomad) would be nice but a 9mm can that can also run 300blk would be more functional right now and keep me from swapping my 30cal can a bunch. I'm leaning towards a CGS Mod 9 for AR9 use, 300blk, and some pistol fun. But then I start thinking about getting a .45cal can that can also do all of that plus .45s like the obsidian. Might be a game time decision on that one.

I bought my first two with the intent of using them hunting for myself and with my kids. Now it's morphed into more than that as it seems to do with everyone.

Those of you that used silencer shop, after your purchase how long did it take to certify? I have been “preparing for eforms” for almost 3 weeks

My last 3 through them that were e-file ranged from 2-1 month. A call to them at 3 weeks got the 1 month. The other two took way too long to prepare documents. Each of those dates ranges were after my dealer had the form 3 and suppressor in hand. Lucky for me he communicates well.

While the process between SS and SC is slightly different, the criticisms and problems are the same. While I have no direct experience with SS, there are plenty on this forum who have and their delays and added wait time are on par with SC. The fact that many local dealers are getting rid of their SS kiosks says a lot. They don't want the brunt of the customer complaints.
