Over the past week, I have been testing several suppressors:

- T&K Vorix
- T&K Altus
- Airlocker Zero Gravity 6.5
- Unknown Suppressor Reaper
- Unknown Suppressor Reaper 6.5

I plan to record weekly videos of each suppressor being tested with a sound meter. It should be enlightening. I might even do a little broscience testing similar to this thread. It's about as solid as testing them with a meter.....

I will have the first video up in a couple of days.

Looking forward to this. If possible, even if it’s just bro science, can you speak to recoil reduction between them, assuming you are shooting something with a little pop.

Initial thoughts on the testing you’ve already done over the past week?

I’d be interested in a test of the Reaper 6.5 braked vs un braked at some point if possible.

Looking forward to seeing the overall results of your testing.

Super interested in this. To really make this effective, could you try and do the following things which are different from how people usually test cans:
  • Take 10 samples per can/rifle combo
  • Try and do all the testing with a given cartridge on the same day/environmental conditions
  • Keep the mic and muzzle locations and orientations as identical as possible between different combos
  • Eventually, shoot each can with multiple calibers/cartridges so the effect of bore/bullet clearance can be captured
This might sound like a lot, but we're just talking about 50rds with a ~20" 6.5CM to cover the 5 cans you pictured. Video of the test would be great too, like Form does. Also, if you want help I'd be happy to process the data and tabulate it.

ETA: hell I would even send $$ to cover the extra ammo costs, just to get some better and more apples-to-apples data.

it seems that every testing I have seen people do is exactly this except maybe the 10 shots.

It would be awesome if you threw in the OG6-S here and have the results available before the group buy closes. I want to order one but would appreciate a little more data/testing to base my purchase decision on than just Form's current metering video... Would really appreciate it @Unknown Suppressors @Ryan Avery @B_Reynolds_AK if you could make this happen prior to closing out the group buy!

Nothing matters to me about how they set up tests except that each is tested in the same way relative to each other. The dbA results mean little by themselves, only how the compare to each other.

It Is interesting to me the OG6.5 and OG6-s are not included.

@Ryan Avery Any chance of grabbing an OG6-S to throw into the mix as well? With the imminent Group Buy, guys would probably be curious to know how the latest iteration sounds.
I won't be testing the OGs against anything. I helped in the design of them and it's a
Conflict of interest IMO.
Are you following the SAAMI standards when you set up these tests?
No

I think you are missing out on a real opportunity to change the suppressor industry smoke and mirrors game if you tried to test to SAAMI specs. Or at least posted your results using the unweighted values.
According to a reputable source that tests in this industry, SAAMI has a lot of flaws. I can't speak on it personally, but that's from someone with 20 years of testing experience.

And we test LZpeak - unweighted with the HBK 2255. It's still far from perfect as we are sampling at 64 kHz versus the MIL standard of 200+

The best thing one can do is test multiple suppressors with the same bore diameter using the same meter, same gun host, ammo, etc during the same time period. That gives a good picture of comparable suppressor performance.

Another aspect people don't realize, is bore diameter plays a major role in comparing suppressors. A 30 cal needs to be compared to a 30 cal. 6MM to a 6MM and so on.

Nobody will get the same results as PEW Science with a $5000 - $10000 meter. That doesn't matter in this instance though. Ryan is comparing cans on the same host, same ammo, same meter position, and within a short time period within each other. Smoke and mirrors only occurs when that doesn't happen. Testing cans to the same baseline can provide thoughtful information.
