Summer Hunt?

I have May 20th thru July 4th off every year but outside of predator calling and hogs haven't found much in the way of domestic hunts. Most seasons begin in Late July and thereafter. Am I overlooking anything? I prefer archery for big game.

May 20 through early June is prime time for Spring bear. I love bear hunting at that time of year, the green country and many deer and elk.

Aoudad but that’s getting close to being to hot in TX and OTC NM.

Some good LF Axis hunts in Texas also Javi hunts

Baker3 Ranch And thier Summer Axis And Annual Exotic bow hunts is a good deal
Callahan Ranch is a fun hog and Javi bow hunt.

Exotics in Texas. Axis deer, fallow, and sika are all good eating. Plenty of places here, high fence or low fence whichever you want. Javelinas are fun too.

Done the hog thing to death, and as for the bear thing, worst tasting critter I ever killed and ate (or tried to eat) and mine was a fat fall bear loaded with blackberries and instantly dressed and cooled on the first day of snow. trimmed all the fat off and it was still disgusting. Unsure how I feel about HF for exotics usually hunted in Africa. Have done canned hunts for bison (not fenced as big bulls can go right through em) cuz I prefer it to beef and don't have a problem with those who do HF but unsure how I feel chasing exotics in a zoo. Even if the property is 5000 acres it's still a kind of preserve.

Hogs were made for bowhunting.....I never tire of it.

Well I was going to say you don't even have to drive to AK...norcal has good black bears...but that sounds like a no go.

CA Coastal Blacktail opens in july...but they are not very good eating deer, IMO

You could do a real Water buff hunt in Australia....those buff are the real deal.... one stomped a mudhole in our guide on a summer bowhunt...just about killed him and would have if he wasn't in thick springy brush. No HF hunt there......those critters are nasty.

Antelope opens in aug in a couple states

Black bears in Alaska! The one we killed last spring was delicious.

We backpacked on the Kenai Peninsula and saw quite a few bears.

Bears are a PITA really and how many rugs do ya need? Gotta freezer full of pork, another filled with bison and another loaded with moose. Might try to scratch up a lion hunt but getting one with a bow requires insane luck or hounds.

Hell, I'd just go bear hunting. Bring a fly rod, find a place with some high alpine lakes, catch trout, scout for elk and deer, and maybe shoot a bear.

Either that, or there are some turkey hunts that run into Late May at least, maybe beginning of June. Do something different, come to New England, hunt turkey, fish for stripers and trout, eat lobster... Although, I'd still go with the bear hunt :D

Spear fishing. It has more in common with hunting than fishing. You spot your prey and plan your approach, then stalk, take your shot, and retrieve your game.

Well it sounds like you are down to shooting gophers on the midwest plains. Make sure to watch your wind on them gophers and set up your decoys into the sun.

On a serious note - If i had that much time off around then, I would be chasing alpine bears on the KP like mentioned above. Bears everywhere, tons of little lakes to throw flies at trout, and you can load up on sockeye in mid June before heading home. You could probably sell the raw hides for the cost of the tags. AND I would be glad to come and take the meat off your hands! I get tons of visitors every year and between moose, bison, goat, caribou, and black bear; the black bear game bacon from Indian Valley is always the crowd favorite. But i get where you are coming from. Good luck and I hope you find a way to use that valuable time wisely!

Look at all these guys who love hunting bears. I love it. I personally am okay with shoot-and-don't eat for black bears and wolves based on the havoc they raise on deer and elk fawns/calves. I'm usually strict on that for ethical reasons.

Adding some fishing into bear hunting is magical to me.

PA Spring Gobbler runs the month of May. I shot one on May 16th last year. Lot's of public land (ANF) and run and gun calling.
