I'm looking for a lightweight tent big enough to fit me and my gear for a 7 day hunt in Idaho. I am only 5'9" so I don't take up a lot of space, but, my one person tent from last year was simply not big enough for me and my pack.

Any suggestions on a 2 person tent under 4lbs. and $400? Thanks!

I really like my big Agnes fly creek ultra lite 2. It's something like 2.2lbs, packs up tiny, had plenty of room for me and my gear and I bought it on sale at ems for $275. Only thing I'd change would be a bigger vestibule but not many 2p tents have larger ones.

Check out some of the Tarptent models. The Stratospire 1 or 2 should fit your needs, but you may like a different model.

I run a MSR HubbaHubba NX and I like it. I know BA makes some good tents and many people use them and have great success.

X6 on the copper spur mine kept me dry during more than a few torrential downpours this season. Plenty of room for one and gear but a little tight for two unless it's your wife or girlfriend but for 1 and gear it's perfect.

I've had the Seedhouse 1 & 3 and the FlyCreek 1,2,3 and now run the Copper Spur 2. My "needs" are a lightweight tent for me plus gear. The SH & FC tents have the same design/footprint with weight being the major difference between the two models. I prefer the 2 doors and vestibules of the CS much more than the single end entrance of the SH & FC. I also noticed climbing over my gear when I had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night sucks big time. Another issue I had with the SH & FC (because of the shape and slope of the single door on the SH & FC) was rain & frost falling into my tent when I opened the door. The CS doesn't have that problem. For the slight increase in weight the CopperSpur design is hard to beat.

Lovin' my Tarptent SS2! It's the tallest model they make. It's a 2-3 person tent w/ nest at 3.5lbs.

View the videos at https://www.tarptent.com/stratospire2.html

I'm a bigger guy who prefers to keep his gear inside the tent (not in the vestibule) and I need a bit more room in my tent as I get claustrophobic in a small tent. But the SS1 might be a better fit for you.

Wow! Thank you all for your help. I have been reading all your comments and suggestions and doing some homework for myself. I am a ways out from purchasing a tent yet, but always good to start looking and keeping an eye out for some deals. I am liking the Tarptent rainbow 2 so far, but will continue to look until I pull the trigger on one. Thanks again. Always good to talk gear!

Thanks Bruce! I follow a lot of your posts on AT as well. Question: Do you feel the need for a footprint with a tarptent?

REI quarter dome t2. I think I seen them on clearance awhile back. I think they have a new model? Nice tent for the money.
