Stuck case, any ideas?

Is that a Type S die when you can select your neck bushing?

I’ve never seen a neck collapse into the case like that!

Conventional fixed neck die with expander ball.
Have you checked how much it’s sizing the neck down? Could be over working the shit out of that neck.

But I’ve intentionally neck down brass .020 at a time without issue. Could be the geometry of the shoulder or something. Just rattling shit off, but I’ve never inverted a shoulder like that lol

I think you’re spot on. I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what happened. And when the neck-/shoulder collapsed, it basically riveted itself into the top of the die.

I’m going to see how it functions tomorrow, but if there’s any funny business I’m pretty sure I’ll snag a SAC die.

For sure! And measure the OD of a loaded round and just get a bushing that’s .004-.005 under that diameter.

I did this with my 6GT Hornady die the first time i ever used it. Didn’t stick but i did ruin 2 cases.

Betcha the expander ball is too high in the die so the case hit the neck of the die and the mandrel at the same time. It can’t get through so it shoves it inside the case body. Thought i had those cases still but don’t.

Sac makes a good die, but it’s really its best with a decapping expander, which is even more.

The A419 s series is another I’d look at. Unless your wanting the modular nature of the sac, the a419 is a nice die that does what the sac does for the most part if your only using it for one caliber. Saves a few bucks, I almost prefer my a419 s series to my sac for my dashers. It’s just a simpler die, but still very high quality. Both size farily low on the base as well.

Appreciate the rec. I’ll give them a look.

Your original post said first case sized ok, then second got stuck. When you say first case do you mean first case ever through the new die, first case for the session? was this new brass? once fired?

I do not have any experience with the Dillon spray but I know I have had a case get stuck with Hornady spray and an Ackley case. After moving to Redding case lube, never had a problem with thousands of rounds.

Just my 2 cents and comments.

First case of this lot.
I’ve sized 500 with this die prior to yesterday’s episode. Always with either imperial sizing wax or Hornady one shot.
First time using the Dillon spray however.

Looking into the die, I’m seeing pretty clear radial scoring marks. Tried to size a well lubed case this morning and I could feel it starting to catch early in the stroke. So I stopped before getting another case stuck.

I called Redding, showed them the extracted case, and explained what I was seeing and feeling.

To their credit, they offered to ship the die back to them in NY to look it over at no charge.
