Well, she’s stuck. Would love to get someone’s 2nd opinion on getting a stuck case removed.

Redding full length die, cases lubed with Dillon spray. 6GT.
First case sized effortlessly.
Second case ripped the rim right off.

Not enough rim left to try pulling.

What I’ve tried:
1. Pulled the decapping pin, and tried hammering the case out from the top. No luck. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Stuck case removal kit is your friend. Several companies make them and most places that sell reloading equipment will also have the kit. Also using Imperial Sizing Die wax seems to work better for me than spray on type lubes.

I've had this happen a couple times and it usually ends at the vise mutilating little pieces out by tapping picks and using files or mini hack saw blades to cut thru the case until the big chunk finally comes.

My first move would be to grab the base in the vise and try to tap the die off. That will at least separate the case head so you can work in there if it doesn't simply come out.

How did the die handle your extraction techniques? Still makes straight ammo? Or did any of you end up replacing it?

You'd think it would be all scratched to hell, but that brass is soft and the die surface is hard.

I have this fine tooth mini hack saw blade somewhere that really did a good job one time and haven't been able to put hands on it.

Another thing I use for case head separation is a screw extractor kit, the big one really grabs a standard case.

Big fender washer that opening fits over casing. 1/4 pipe nipple and 1/4 fender washer and long bolt that's threaded longer than the pipe nipple and a shorter bolt thats completely threaded and a 1/4-20 tap along with recommend drill bit size. Now you have built your own extraction kit that any hardware store carries. Try that first before anything else it'll be worth the $10 and you won't screw up the die, or order a kit.

yeah idk man. But it was in tight.
I tapped and threaded the primer pocket. Then the bolt ripped the brass threads out before budging in the die.

Ran a punch down the neck, and smacked it with a 4lb sledge. Nothing.

Heated the die under a torch, then pressed the punch in a hydraulic press, and finally some movement.

One of those days I guess.
I’ll see how jacked up the die is tomorrow.
