Stone Glacier X Curve and Sky 5900 initial impressions

Yeah the frame height is fixed but again moving the shoulder straps adjusts the torso length and moves where the straps attach.

Maybe I'm talking about the frame height, which I thought corresponded to torso length. It seems like there should be different options or ability to adjust the distance between the hip belt and upper part of the Velcro on the frame where the straps attach (along with the horizontal webbing strap that the shoulder strap feeds through on the frame). ...or maybe I don't realize how much I don't understand about pack fit

Maybe just ask the question first before accusing me of trolling. It is possible that I didn't get it adjusted the way it was meant to. I emailed with SG, called, and watched the video. They were very supportive and responsive. It seemed like a great pack and I really wanted it to work but I never could get it adjusted to where it felt like it wasn't pulling back on my shoulders (unless it was really tight). You can obviously adjust the shoulder strap length. You can also rotate where the shoulder straps/pads sit on your shoulders by undoing the Velcro attachment to the frame. My statement was about the fact that this still doesn't change where the shoulder straps actually attach to the frame. That is where any residual weight from the hip belt is transferred. That's a fixed point by the nylon straps that the shoulder straps feed through above the Velcro attachment. Basically, I felt like I needed a different dimension between the hip belt and where the residual weight of the pack is transferred from the frame to the shoulder straps. Seemed like a good pack otherwise and might work for everyone else, just didn't for me. I tried on a different pack Friday afternoon and with little adjustment it felt completely different for me personally. Maybe I just couldn't figure out the SG.

Thats a very bold and false statement to make if you don't understand how to properly fit and adjust a pack

Yes. It seems to me that the attachment point on the actual frame should be adjustable or come in different frame heights for different torso lengths of the user. I understand that load lifter connection provides this to some degree as you move the shoulder straps up and down the Velcro attachment on the frame. My apologies if I've incorrectly characterized the features of this pack or don't know what I'm talking about. Let me revise my first statement: Seemed like a great pack/frame. Didn't work for me personally. I tried a pack with a different frame height instead.

sr80, are there any other apologies or clarifications I need to make?

Sorry for making a mess of this thread. I made the first post without thinking through all of the details.

It sounds like its confusion on terms and packs in general. The attachment is adjustable and the load lifters have nothing to do with changing the torso. But it really doesn't matter since it sounds like you dont even have the pack anymore.

yes, you can apologize to Kurt for making false claims

^^^ The angriest man on ROK ladies and gentlemen! THE ANGRIEST!!!! ^^^

If some dude goes online and googles stone glacier sky 5900 because he is interested in ordering one and he sees "Sent it back. It's one size fits all with no real torso length adjustment " And decides after seeing that he doesnt want one, that statement just cost SG a pack sale.

Kurt, my apologies for making an incorrect statement without knowing what I was talking about.

sr80 and Kurt, should I delete my original post or should I edit it to clarify my ignorance to packs and pack fitment and that my statement was incorrect? I made the post quickly before I went in to work and really screwed this one up now that I've been educated by the replies.

I either couldn't figure out how to adjust it properly or the pack just wasn't for me. I bought a different one Friday evening that had frame height options and it just felt different without a lot of adjustment. That's all I can say.

Fish, the frame didn't work for you, that's all, it happens.
But just so you know, you could cut those off and the pack would act the same while on your back. Those do not factor in to how the pack fits on your back assuming you don't have a mini torso.

Glad you got into a pack that worked for you as that's what's most important.

Your kifaru frame does not have different frame heights, its a 24" frame, no matter how you adjust it, it is a 24 " frame

Agreed. I stand corrected on all points. I did think that different frame heights had differently spaced attachment points for the harness, which is incorrect also. The 24" hunter frame happens to fit me while I personally couldn't get the xcurve to fit, which is probably a result of my lack of ability to properly adjust it. Thanks for the feedback guys.

You got a pack that fits you and that was the end goal. All of the different frame options and adjustments can be confusing if you are not familiar with them. You cant go wrong with a Kifaru.
