Steel over carbon barrels?

Why does everyone goes 18,20 and 22 inches for length on carbon and 26in for steel?Why not a 18 or 16 in for a steel barrel?

People use whatever length that suits their needs, material is irrelevant.

Your question isn't very clear
But if you are talking about barrel blanks, its because you can take a 26 inch steel barrel and cut it down to any length you want. Once you go with a carbon you are stuck to that length forever unless you find a smith willing to gunk up his tools cutting down carbon wrapped barrels and have one of the select few carbon barrels that you can actually cut without destroying the wrap.

I have an 18" steel and another 18" steel ordered. I wasn't aware there was a steel length and/carbon length thing.
