I can’t imagine why anyone would prefer a steel scope mount, scopes are the weakest link and they are aluminum.

You answered your own question. Agreed on the strength, as long as they're designed well the aluminum isn't an issue. Especially 7075.The aluminum in your scope tube is way thinner than any scope mount.
