I checked the G 34 on Friday. Got some elk but no bucks. I found wrapping the cord this way around the tree ensures it doesn't come unplugged from the solar panel if there's a disturbance. Doesn't look like the porcupine revisited me.
I quit receiving pictures on Saturday from the GXW. I was getting the notifications that I have pictures, but when I would open the app nothing would upload. I called Customer Service this morning (got a human right away) and she said there is a tower update issue that should be resolved by tonight. She said they had lots of calls this morning. She thought when the update completed that I would get my photos from the last three days. And that I shouldn't have to go reset the camera. Biting my nails on this one!
Tower issue must have been resolved as I received photos this morning for 8/1. However, I did NOT receive the days the tower issue was happening, 7/29, 7/30, 7/31. Those will be on the SD card. So take note, if there is a Tower issue, you might not receive photos. Good news is I don't have to make a 220 mile round trip to reset the camera!
Ryan, did you miss any transmissions during those dates?
GWX working fine since tower update, but those bucks have not been back.
So the cams been out about 6 weeks. Night mode only, as I know these bucks are not going to water in the daytime, and I don't need 50 million pictures of birds. Over 700 pics, and my battery is still fully charged and the SD card is still above 90%.
As I get closer to pulling the cam, I might switch it over to video because I'm not as concerned about battery life now.
Heres a pic of a descent 6 from a cam I just checked today for the first time in over a month. This is from my really old stealth cam.... got to be 9-10 years old and still going strong. Had 456 pics on it and still full battery power. Being the old camera it takes the 'C' batteries.
Edit: should mention the high number of pics on this camera was due to wind moving the trees and also shadows.
My new ones (the G42NG) are doing amazing. They've been out for 5-6 weeks, and the one has taken well over 1000 pics.... it took 730ish pics in the span of a week and a half and the battery life is still at 100 percent-- and thats on the alkaline batteries. I just can't seem to spend the $$$ for lithium batteries for my trail cams. With the water disappearing fast i've had to put cameras in some pretty exposed places just to get the angles for the cams, and the darned elk sure love to mess with them, hence the high number of pics.
Hey, the GXW started transmitting yesterday. So only missed one day. Surely a tower issue. I wrote myself a note to check that missing day on the SD card. Probably pull the camera in the next few weeks. Still only had that one bachelor herd come in. This spring is slow this year either due to the wetter year or the fact that the cattle stomped out the spring or because bucks are ultimately mysterious. This doe is the first deer in a few weeks. Remember, this is a screen shot, so not as clear as from an SD:
Checked the G34 today. Got tore up again, this time by a spike elk. Luckily it was only off a few days. He busted the solar charger cord and unplugged the cam despite my efforts noted above. I'm hoping to remember electrical tape next time so I can tape that cord (all my splices are exposed) and try and secure the external batt from coming unplugged. I wish I could hang it higher but only small trees and no ladder.
Good trigger time on these little G34:
These were in the same 4 second burst and that cam got both animals.
Also got a ragbull coming by
I'll tell you what, while I love the GXW, this little G34 is a sweet cam for $100 bucks. I think they'd be good for a guy who runs a cam line and checks it fairly often (simply for the fact that as you've seen, animals do mess with cams!)

Weather has cooled so spring action has slowed significantly. Here's a few pics showing that as soon as a buck sticks his nose near it, the GXW nails it.

The GXW blew up last night, 100+ pics. Four bucks, seems like new ones I haven't seen. This was the best one
In 10 seasons of running cams, this is one of the few mature bucks that watered in legal shooting light.
I'll be pulling the cam soon as archery is about to start. Cams been out since June 24 and is still showing full battery and 92% remaining SD space, so I dropped the pause between bursts to 15 seconds, increased quality to high resolution, photo burst to 5. As the days are getting shorter, I added a half hour to the morning and started the evening a half hour earlier. All This will burn more data, battery, but I've got room for that. Might even try some video before I pull it. Love this cam
