I am looking for a spotting scope to use shooting and to carry in my truck for general wildlife viewing. Also not looking for something crazy expensive either. So what range and objective size would be good out to say 7-800 yards. What brands or models specifically would be great.

Let's get this out of the way....... I am a Swarovski fanboy! Most of my hunting rifles sport Swaro glass, ad I carry Swaro binoculars. My spotter is a Maven S-1a. For me and my eyes this is a very good spotter and I find that it does exactly what I need it to do.

I am with Elkguide on this. I also carry Swarovski EL binos. I really enjoy my Maven S1.2S spotter.

With that said, depending on your budget, you may want to look at the Athlon Ares as a really good spotter for the money. And, although I haven't personally used one, I hear really good things regarding the GPO spotters. I have their Rangeguide 8x40 and think it is optically nice and the GPO Passion HD bino in 15x50 is a really nice bino. If optically they are in the range of these binos, the GPO would be a good option. I am sure Doug from CameralandNY could chime in more on that.

I have also used the Maven CS1 15-45x65 spotters and found them very good, especially for the money. But at that range, you would probably prefer to use an 80mm objective option, especially if you aren't packing it far.
