ya know.. good time to pass on to those who didnt have a mentor but i was always told when you approach a downed animal ... poke it in the eye with a long stick or the barrel of your rifle... nothing likes getting poked in the eye
Haha that's what I was taught by my uncles. I still do it.

I’m pretty sure he scratched it behind the ears and told it “you’re going to be ok”. Then grabbed it by the ears for a grip and grin. At least that’s what I had in my head.

Way to go! Awesome hunt and pics and you may never know how much those memories mean to your kids. Hunts with my dad are some of the best memories I have!
