This thread won’t get anywhere near the traction that other COVID threads do because it’s hard for a lot of people to try and focus on the personal positives despite so much global negative.

I’m working from home on my laptop out on my deck watching my son and dogs play. It’s 65 degrees and sunny and I have the Meoptas next to me on a tripod checking on a golden eagle that’s been hunting one of my steep slopes for the past 45 minutes. It’s only a matter of time before he nails a nice cottontail or jack rabbit. Or maybe my wife’s little dog. Don’t tell her that though.

Wow, It’s kind of hard for me to believe that places like that exist. This is my view of my front yard right now, and I think it was about 10° last night.

It was 90° here yesterday 😂 (S FL)

As far as positives, my 7 year old learned to ride a dirt bike, my 4 year old learned to ride a bike with no training wheels and my 2 year old, well we have been able to keep him alive thus far and that is an accomplishment because that little kid is straight nuts.

I think this is an opportunity for the whole country, if not the world, to emerge from our quarantine/stay-home orders with a new appreciation for everyday freedoms. I hope that this will be an event that unifies the country as much as 9/11 did. I was young in 2001 but I still remember how everyone was pulled together and put most of the political bullshit aside.

I want to believe we will have much the same after-response to this as we did to 9-11. Staggered by the immensity of the event, then the American spirit resurfaces and we determinedly find our way forward. Every situation presents an opportunity.

I decided to revisit an old and almost-forgotten fishing spot. My friends of the past were still there and gave me a toothy welcome-back.

I'm jealous! Washington State closed all state lands to include all fishing. Showed up to the river with my fly rod and it was absolutely empty except some WDFW patrols and sheriffs looking to hand out some fines to dumb-dumbs like me that hadn't heard about the closure.

Glass is also half full.

My kids (11 & 15) are out of school for 2 weeks. Um...OK. So far their “assignments from Dad”:

1. A family dinner planned, prepared, and served my them. “Clean kitchen to clean kitchen”. They’re pretty excited.

2. History lesson from their grandad.

3. Yardword.

4. Build a tree house.

5. Redecorate their rooms.

6. Start a garden.

In reality, as bad as this pandemic might/could be, this could be the beginning of something or end of a lot of something else. I feel pretty positive that “we’ll all get through this”. So when they are adults possibly they’ll have some good memories of 2020 and their free 2 week vacation.

What are you fellas thinking?
good job Dad

My garden starters are doing great and I learned how to grow shiitake mushrooms on logs!

Gave me time to finish closing in my greenhouse and to plant garden starts (just in time for a coupla Rocky Mountain spring blizzards with nighttime temps in the teens).

Also was able to fix my grandpa's 12 ga. that had a broken action rail.

And way more time with my kids... gardening, rocking out, air hockey, playing dolls (with my daughter, I swear) 😉

Time to revive this one... a few pics from hitting the hills this last weekend (May 16). Classic Jeep driver, cooking dogs on forest wood, understanding what the north slope means for travel, and knowing how boys hands should really look... a great day of homeschooling for the kids.

Stay home stay healthy is a fraud.
