So, you went smaller caliber, but not down to .223…

Building a fast twist 25 cal, on the fence between 25-06AI and 25 Creed.

If CO didn’t have its 6mm minimum rule it would have been a 22 ARC or Creed most likely.
Can’t go wrong with either. If you have a long action already, do a 25-06ai. Otherwise, the creed is sweet.

It all depends on how far you intend to shoot if you need more than the creed. I run a short mag 25 with a 21 barrel for the extra speed.

Why not a 6 creed if legal?

Using a good recoil calculator if you do an apples to apples comparison 6.5PRC and 30-06 are virtually the same.

Keep rifle weight constant, choose max velocity/max load for the 143 ELD-X and 178 ELD-X and the result is nearly identical. I got ~22.5 for an 8.5# rifle.

I have a long action and lots of 25-06 ammo for fire forming brass. I think 25 Creedmoor is the smarter long term choice, but I like having the ability to shoot cheap factory ammo. Plus there is a cool factor to 25-06 (for me at least).

I’m not 100% ready to go all in on the small bores (still have a 300WSM, just bought a 7PRC). But if CO makes the 22cals legal or the shoot-ability of the 25 really blows me away, I will probably go smaller some day.

The 25-06ai is definitely cool with a fast twist. And, it’s so shootable with the 133 EH.

Going from a 7 shooting 180 VLD to the 25 is a big jump. I’d say it’s about like a 6.5 creed shooting 140+ with better ballistics.

From 25 to 6mm or .233 is not as big as from 7 to 25.

I’ve gone from 300 wby, to 7 rem mag, and now to the 6.5 PRC. Swore I’d never own a creedmoor, but a 6 cm may be in my future. I love my PRC and don’t think I’ll ever give it up though.

They aren’t blood relatives, the 6 creed, 22 creed, and 25 creed are only related by name, and are not vegan opinionated, flat bill wearing cartridges like the 6.5… you’re good with them

Started out hunting with a borrowed 25-35. In 1968 for my 8-grade graduation my dad bought me a Rem 700 in 30-06. That rifle served me will till the mid 80's when I quit hunting and started shooting handguns in what they now call ISPA. My son joined me in the 90's. In 2005 Started shooting rifles in what evolved to PRS. Around 2011 my son started hunting deer and I got the opportunity to buy a 260 that was built by Terry Cross [ KMW]. My son and I hunted white tails in Idaho and Mule deer here in CA. 20 yds was longest tracking job. 260 was 1 in 9 twist so shot 129 sst and switched to 100 grain Barnes when CA went to mono. I think the point I'm trying to make is back then the trend was short mags or 7 mags.
I posted in of your other threads this year my son and I drew a WY general tag. Kind of a buck list hunt where we were going to hire a guide to pack in to get away from roads. My first thought was my 260 was not enough gun for this hunt. Started looking around on some of the other gun forums and found a custom 300 win mag at a price that I couldn't pass on. Worked up a load for it and shot around 100 rounds learning to control recoil. Not fun to shoot but got the job done on the first day of my hunt. Bull of a lifetime was downhill and across canyon ranged at 316. Set up on my pack and waited for a window too shoot through dead trees and new growth in a old burn. First shot was through lungs, fired again and hit trees, only sign was small piece of medal in back strap. Third shot put him down he was quartering to me and the bullet hit behind front shoulder and was recovered in flank area underneath the skin. He moved about 30 yds from first to third shot. After reading some of the different posts on small calibers I think my 260 could have got the job done. But at the time I was glad to have the extra horse power. If my 260 was a 1 in 8 twist it would have been a no brainer it would have been my gun of choice.

Havent fully decided if I am going to ditch the 7mag but if I do, it will probably be for a 6 creed as it seems that more states allow for 243 and up. I dont want to not be able to hunt with the gun.

started with a 30-06 because, well, 30-06
then grabbed some 7 mags because i always wanted one (or more)
i shoot the 7 mags just fine but i hunt forests so no need to burn all that powder
settled on a roughtech in 308 because it does what i needed it to do (130 TTSX @ 3000 suppressed)
but now eyeing a 1:8 T3x in .243 for chopping down and threading
maybe i'll go with a RSS at some point for practice
but i still want to build a 300 WSM for no good reason

.Late 2023 6.5CM to 6 CM

The external ballistics give me a 150 yard advantage over the 6.5CM and the terminal ballistics of the 108 ELD-M are undeniable.

Being more cost effective, less recoil and larger danger space are added benefits.

I think maybe the danger space advantage is under appreciated when getting the 6 mm over the 6.5.

Has there been any difference on killing factor once you switched?

What is danger space?

Also, @B_Retnolds_AK how is the the 6CM more cost effective than the 6.5CM? Are you speaking from a handloader’s perspective?

I mustered up the courage to shoot a doe in MT with my 6mm BR, 105 Bergers at 2900 (26" barrel). @PNWGATOR would be so proud. 😂. 440 yards in a stiff 12 mph wind and what do you know? she died. Baby steps, but i am getting there. Not sure if i'll ever go full WKR and hunt with it or a .223 though. My next baby step down with be to hunt elk with my 7 SAUM and not my 30 Nosler.

I started out with Grandpa's Pre-64 Model 70 30-06, with the steel butt plate and open sights. Around 14 years old I bought a Savage 110 in 30-06. A few more 06's along the way until I found Rokslide in 2014.

Back then, the DIY Medium-LR Rokslide Special was a Tikka T3 SL in 7mmRM! (BrockA made them famous!) Mine served me very well for a few years and I'd wager that the barrel is 3/4 done (close to 1000 rounds thru that sweetheart!). I also picked up a T3 SL in 30-06 as I dabbled in the lightweight mtn rifle stuff.

When my wife gave her blessing to turn a truck I owned into a custom, I built an unbelievable 300WM.

The Creedmoor bug bit me and I have had a handful....they kill without drama a lot.

The old 7rm action now wears a 18" 6.5 SAUM barrel (suppressed) and is my go to. The 300WM pretty much sits in the safe, which makes me feel really guilty...My T3x CTR in 6.5 CM is in the mix and my T3x in .223 is as well, for my daughters and me.

I still have a superlite in 6.5CM and 30-06 that will soon become a 22CM and a 6CM....and I have considered mothballing the SAUM for the time being.

I have a really hard time selling guns, but I contemplate turning the ones I don’t use (and a stupid amount of ammo and components) into to money every day......

Anymore, I'd be more than content with just my Tikkas configured to 22LR (T1x), .223, 22, 6 and 6.5 CM and 6.5 SAUM (although the Mag bolt face may become a 6mm of some sort, too)

Grandpa's Model 70 is in my safe now, too, but it's not going anywhere. At least I have that excuse to hang onto the 30-06 ammo and components.
