Rifles are bullet delivery devices, and cartridges/powder capacity determine the velocity.
Don’t favor a “sweet” spot?
I am drawn to hunting cartridges that can deliver high BC bullets between 2900 and 3100 fps. I am in AZ so late evening cross canyon/arroyo shots are common in the last 20 minutes. Wind also can be very calm at that time.
My sweet spot gives me great ballistics to effective hunting distances, and the smaller the cartridge I get less recoil and shorter barrel length. I am still working out the 6mm and 22 cal for what bullet I will stick with. The new TMK may get the nod.
I started with the 7 then went smaller for less recoil and shorter barrel:
7 SS 180 VLD at 3050 fps 26” barrel
25 SST 133 at 3075 fps 22” barrel
6 PRC 115 at 3000 fps 19” barrel
22 creed 80 at 2950 fps 18” barrel
Those give me max range for target fun and better wind deflection than other capable cartridges inside 500.
