Snakes in the yard

Any venomous snake in the yard gets whacked for sure.
The only time I've been bitten was by a copperhead
IN THE GARAGE!! - Despise those things.

Yeah, a few years back a guy across the road was bitten by a rattlesnake while stepping off his porch.

My parents get rattlesnakes in their yard occasionally. Last summer, there was a 4 footer in a pine tree. That one got everyone’s attention.

Appreciate the replies everyone. Looks like from this thread and everything else I’ve read I’m probably stuck with the situation. I’m just trying to avoid getting popped or my cat lol. Vet said they’ve treated way more dogs than cats so maybe she’s quick enough to avoid them.

I tap on the article you posted and all I get is a “Sorry, no longer available”. I’m guessing it’s fake news. I’m telling you we don’t have ticks. I’ve never pulled a tick off of my dogs, or anything I’ve killed in the last 33 years.

We killed a baby rattler this year that the kids found in the backyard and now my wife is fulltilt. Weve put down snakeaway but I have no idea the effectiveness. I think were getting a cat now too. Im also now making sure all the toys are put away that could be hidey spots .

Copperheads have perfect camo in mulched gardens or flower beds. They are the only snake that doesn't get a pass around my house

Has anyone priced anti-venom?
Hunting buddy got nailed on the ankle by a copperhead while turning off a garden hose. Leg turned black and blue up to his hip.

About 10k if I remember correctly.

No such thing as a rattlesnake egg, LOL. Pit vipers bear live young.

Hatchling's LOL. Had a mama and her young in the entry way last summer . don't know if I got them all but at about 4" long they are a pain to kill in the plants. Another good snake we have are the black coachwhips.

Used to have rattlesnakes, rats, and mice all over my property. Snakes in the garage and on my concrete porch at night in morning for heat. Tried all the gimmicks. Only thing that ever worked was cats. They will eat the non venomous snakes and annoy the rattlers enough to keep them away. Also the cats eat all the mice and rats that the snakes are looking for. Ppl say the snakes eat the mice but when I had no cats both snakes and mice/rats were everywhere. My neighbors Tom will kill the rattle snakes. Only hard problem is keeping enough cats around. The coyotes eat them off quickly.

Truth. My daughter came in a few years ago talking about the cat had a snake. My wife and I both figured it was some garter snake. We step off the back porch and find the cat boping a prairie rattler in the head.

Thanks to this thread I had a nightmare last night about snakes on my sleeping bag. Thanks go out to the fisherman passing by in the middle of that night that used a fly rod to chase them off. Normally I’d be much more concerned about some rando dude walking a few feet from my sleeping bag, but in this case it didn’t bother me at all. lol

Ok I’m confused… the snakes were in your dream but was the fisherman real? I mean, c’mon man… you gotta clarify these things !

One time my wife actually sucked me into a nightmare she was having. She had woken up, and in the darkness she mistook a hanging wall plant for a rattlesnake. She woke me up yammering about a snake on the wall, and when I “woke up” I agreed with her. Yessir there is a rattlesnake hanging on the wall!! I did what any brave man would do for his scared wife. I jumped out of bed and tried to murder that thing… with a pillow. Broke the flowerpot, the little wooden shelf, the plant, and launched several pieces into my expensive levelor blinds, denting them for life. Both of us had a good laugh when we actually woke up.
