Small hot tent??

I've had a kifaru 8 man tipi for years.
I recently bought an Argali Yukon.

I love having a large, warm, dry tent to relax in the evenings.

I'm considering an Argali 4p hot tent and wood stove. I would use this tent for spike camps.

But I wonder if it is really worth it. It seems that the tent would get too hot too fast. And I would already be laying in our near my sleeping bag since the tent is too small to sit up.

So... are little hot tents really worth the hassle and weight of bringing a stove??

Even a cimmaron feels tight to me with a wood stove. I burned a hole in my down coat when I accidentally got to close.

If it's cold or gonna be a wet hunt, definitely worth it. If it's dry and above 20⁰, I wouldn't bother.

It can be worth it under the right circumstances, however, you'll likely want a smaller stove then what you use in larger tents and you need to be mindful of the stove and pipe. I always stack some rocks around the stove to keep anything from touching it.

Next up: if you're in a small tent and it snows, especially heavy, wet snow, you'll invariable lose some amount of space due to the tent sag under the weight of the snow and the snow sliding off and building up around the edges. When this happens, it can get real tight in a small tent with a stove. Not saying its not worth it, but it is something to contend with.

I personally only use stoves when its very cold and/or wet. If its dry and not frigid, its not worth the hassle IMO.

I love the size of the Cimarron. It’s a “4-person” but it’s snug with 2 people, stove, and any gear.

Whether I use the stove is dependent. Temperature may drive me to bring/use it, but mostly moisture is what drives the decision. I used it in September here in CO when it was warm but very wet for a few days.

I love my argali 4 man. Summer time I can fit myself and four of my kids in there.
Late season hunt solo things were a little tight. You could definitely fit two guys in there with some work. Maybe three if you had a tarp outside for gear and wood.

I will say I had a night where winds were going 60. It handled it just fine because I had my stakes in tight.

But you don't have a stove... What are your thoughts on that tent with a wood stove?

If you will be spending a lot of time in the cold, a hot-tent is F@#$ing great. Yes, they can get hot, but that's easy to manage, and once you get used to using the stove, you figure out how much wood to add to regulate the temperature. Plan to collect and process firewood; look for camp sites with wood nearby; otherwise, you will spend a lot of time collecting it. Always pack a good saw and a decent knife for battoning is helpful. I have used a stove with a two-person tent, but I prefer larger ones, such as a 3-4 person tent. I also prefer tents with two doors. I use one door for loading wood into the tent, which helps keep wood, dirt, snow, pitch, etc., from getting on your sleep system.
