I am new here and am wondering if anyone has had any experience with this head or has any thoughts on the blade deployment. I have always liked the idea of a Schwacker but was afraid of the aluminum ferrule. Currently running G5 Deadmeats and 100 g Iron Wills in same quiver. The G5s fly great but don't seem to provide great blood trails like the 2 inch cutting heads do. Currently pushing a 544 grain arrow just below 280 fps out of a Pro Defiant, I would only be shooting the head at mule deer.

Thanks

I’m a mechanical guy, right now. The Iron Wills are high on my list if I draw Western hunts. I shoot NAP Spitfire Maxx’s (1.75”) for whitetail (and hogs); about 425 grains at 290 FPS. If you’re pushing 544-grains at 280, you should be able to shoot whatever works.

What’s wrong with the Iron Wills? They get a lot of love these days?

I have used raptor tricks, I killed a caribou and 5 whitetails with them so far. They are a decent head. They deploy fine. The entrance is slightly larger then the closed heads and the blades a deployed early just past the hide. Exit holes are full size or larger. The heads hold up well, havent had a real damage. I have reused a couple, you cant take the blades off as they are pinned with a steel roll pin. I am able to touch up the blades with a fine mill bastard file. Keep in mind they are single bevial.
All in all on thin skined game I like them well enough.

I just carry a couple in the quiver in case I get a frontal or a steep quartering shot. I guess I kind of think it would be a waste on something as light skinned as a mule deer and don't want to risk losing the head.

No kidding single bevel? I'm glad you mentioned this because I shoot a left offset, I hate it when companies do this.

Doubt it would make a difference for you you're not gonna see any rotation with these.

Raptor tricks, schwackers, WAC Em, etc. you’ll see similar performance on all of these heads. A lot of people fear the long ferrule but in this case it was used to help aid in penetration, as long as the ferrule doesn’t bend entering the animal you should be fine but having said that it’s not a super high quality steel so depending on what series aluminum schwacker is using, strength could be similar. If you’re looking to find something that will perform “better” than your dead meat. I don’t think these would be your savior BUT they could be.

Another really tough MBH with a steel ferrule is the Vortex 125 gr. 2". That's been my go to head for well over a decade, great results.

What I like about the raptor trick is the blade angle, while steep its manageable. And I didnt get slapping effect that I have come to hate with heads that fully depoly on the shot side. These heads remind me of a two bladed version of the of the orgainl 125 grain rocket steelheads

I shot a white tail and smoked him, didn't go 25 yards. I keep two in my quiver and two iron wills. For deer I'll consider the expandable. Where I elk hunt they are not legal.
