Guys just wanted to mention SKRE 20%off sale this weekend. I've been so impressed with the hardscrabble I put my own hard earned money where my mouth is and ordered up the ptarmigan ultra down puffy. I like to support local businesses and business that support hunting. Anyhow figured I'd throw a review of it in here when it arrives.

Well today just wasn't meant for work I guess it's sucks I'm ready to get home.
Anyway it's a rain/snow mix here in Elko Nevada so I'm finally going to get to test the hardscrabble jacket and a good chance the dwr finish on the set. I'm about to head for lamoille canyon and try a hike to island lake. Never been up the rubies before so hopefully I'll figure out how to get there

Well I had the pit zips fully opened on the climb up and the hardscrabble jacket is similar to the pants as the pockets are mesh and also vent heat. The waist draw strings worked well even with a pack on.

Also want to mention that the jacket pockets are above the pack hip belt so easily to access with pack on. They are a deep pocket which I find handy.

The cuffs Velcro easily over my gloves and stayed that way usually I have a problem of them riding back up. The Velcro is also long enough to stay put with the sleeve wide open

I didn't bring anything to cover my ears so I donned the jackets hood as soon as I left the car. This is possibly the best fitting hood I've used. Deep enough to keep the wind out and ears warm but doesn't interfere with 180* vision

Do you have the Hardscrabble pants? if yes,how are they?
I have used the pants for about twenty miles so far and I'm impressed. I think I'm going to get my dad a pair. I've used them from temps in low 70s to today which was mid/upper 20s. This is the first pant I've used with hip zips it really is a game changer in versatility. Seemed to really bead the snow/rain off today but it's the first time I've had them out in the weather. I use mostly Sitka accent pants and I think the SKRE pants are thicker and would be a amazing late September archery into rifle season pant and the hip vents give you some options to wear them in warmer temps. Archery season in Utah opens mid August and a lighter pant would be preferred early. I think these could easily be a do it all pant September thru January if you added a insulation layer when real cold out.

I really am piss poor at finding sheds. Hiked about 6 miles glassing these old burns and came up empty. Found a pot and pan set in the middle of nowhere though

Ok guys finally made it home to compare to my Sitka pants 36t I use every year. These are the lighter wieght accent vs the heavier fabric hardscrabble 38R (SKRE also has a early season pant) so not necessarily apples to apples.

Up sized to 2xl for hardscrabble jacket so I could layer into later seasons. Sorry nothing to compare to this is my first soft shell in a long time, but I could see a bunch of benefits to using one if not backpacking in.

So 16.3 oz vs 21.5 oz. prolly to soon to tell but are the Hardscrabbles more durable with the extra 4.2oz?
