I have had the privilege of working with Sitka since 2011. I can honestly tell you, that you will not find a better group of people as a whole, in the industry. A company that promotes conservation, hunting, and the outdoors to the max. Good, honest, down to earth, hard-working, fun people.

All I suggest, in this situation, like any other.......wait for the details (statement in this case), as you sharpen your machetes. You may say you "don't buy" it, or it's a "canned response". Trust me there's nothing canned or taken lightly about these types of situations.

I, like you, have no idea what the response will be.....I do know it will be proper, supportive, and honest. I know with 110% certainty it will be in good taste, with integrity, and ya'll don't have to worry about Sitka supporting your rights.
 
I agree with you Les. The issue of gun violence goes way deeper than people want to talk about I believe. More restrictions on firearms is a political play that they can use as the solution. That’s not the solution though IMO.

I'm waiting to see the full response (statement or otherwise) before I judge Sitka on this. That guy definitely just gave a black eye to every hunting company he's associated with.
 
Social media can rocket your business into the stratosphere....like it has with Sitka....OR it can kill you.

Its lightning fast....companies utilizing it need to have lightning fast responses.....if not...then it shows that the weak leadership does not have clearly defined business plan and mission statement.

Is this a planned strategy trying to segue into the main stream?

Are they softening on the base of hard core hunters they built their business on?

Was this one bad apple?

A good test of their management.....the clock is ticking.
 
I'm waiting on the response as well. I'm certain that Sitka's management team is deliberating this and will come out with a very smart, calculated statement. They will also take any disciplinary action that they feel is warranted and legal. I have relied on their gear and customer service for years to keep me comfortable and warm (or cool) while in the backcountry and they have always come through in exemplary fashion. I simply will not believe that the rantings of one idiot that happens to work for them reflects Sitka's 2A stance at all. It is unfortunate that they have to deal with this now, as it will be done publicly indeed. But, that is the nature of business. Employees have the rights and protections to do as they wish in their time off, that, after all, is why America is great.....lest we forget.
 
Well tell your buddies over at Sitka that if they actually want someone who has been a practicing Biologist/Ecologist and Environmental Scientist who puts animals on the ground every year and supports rural and 2A values to gimme a call. That is if "Environmental Lead" for a hunting company is an actual position and they are actually looking for someone qualified. If they want someone who just went to college for a bunch of years and never experienced the real world of Environmental Science/Biology/Ecology and who maybe shot a quail once; I guess they got the right guy. I'm guessing he is on staff more to market to the people who he is bringing into hunting through his huge social media; which is a fine business model but lets save the feel-good job title akin to some sort of eighth place ribbon!

I don't question the values of Sitka. They tried to market to a new demographic, picked a guy that wasn't properly vetted in order to sell some gear, and they got burned. They put a lot of money back into the mountains.
 
I do wonder if Sitka was aware he was going to make this public announcement and in conjunction with the humane society poster boy? This doesn’t seem like something he would have just done, he probably wouldn’t have even been asked to do it if he didn’t create some sort of public image based off working for Sitka.

My perspective is that a good test of management would have been an application and interview process of "independent contractors" that prioritizes cultural like values and product knowledge/application, ahead of Social Media followers. That seems to have not taken place by those who do the hiring. I would find it hard to believe that Post's views developed over night.
 
Well, you either like the product, hate it, or are indifferent. If you like it, use it, and believe in it as in quality and performance, this situation shouldn't disuade you from continuing to use it.

Haters will make fun and hate, indifferent will say whatever and move on.

If you base your decision to engage in your pastime(s) and what apparel you wear on what the supplier does or says, you may find yourself sitting at home and staring at a wall naked if you're too gung ho to "stick to your guns", ethics, or whatever you want to call it.

As far as termination based on personal life actions, make sure you distance yourself on social media from your employer and don't include it in a profile.

I agree, what you do on your time is your business. If an employer expects you to act accordingly to represent them 24/7 and "punish" you for the contrary for something you post or do on your time, they had better pony up and pay you for more than a 40 hr work week. Because now they are controlling many aspects of your personal life...

Guys I can’t keep up with all of this on the multiple threads. You’re all adults and will/can form your own opinion. As I said earlier, I can honestly say you don’t have to doubt Sitka’s loyalty to the people who built the company, to the outdoors, or the outdoor industry. You will consistently see them at the forefront of conservation efforts. I don’t know what will happen, or be said, only time will tell. I have deer to chase, presents to wrap, kids to spend time with, and hunts to plan. Show season starts in January and I’ll be at a LOT of shows. Stop in and chat.

I’m going to post a post from a friend of mine, also another Sitka ambassador. He sums up the majority really well.

I’ll leave you with one last thought as well. Don’t be a sheep. If this really bothers you, do some research. Look for the positives out there. Don’t believe me, just because I tell you Sitka has done a bunch of amazing things for the hunting world. Find out for yourself. Look it up. Just because some jack wagon spews off a bunch of other bullshit, doesn’t mean the world is ending. Do some research find out the facts. . Life is full of sheep, don’t let them pull the wool over your eyes.

I won't hold a company responsible for what one employee says. Plus my purchase decisions are based on gear that will work best for me not anything else.
