I was wondering what everyone's success has been using sitka a open country and forest for turkeys. I have read a few accounts but it was more this is what I will be wearing next season. I have some kuiu in verde that I am going to use but have a lot of Sitka in both patterns. I will be hunting pa oh and Florida this year so would love to hear what you have to say. I am not buying anymore camo right now so please keep it to Sitka thank you

My buddy was using his Sitka forest last year in Nebraska and with me calling he was able to shoot the biggest public land bird that I have ever seen taken. 24lbs 11 inch main beard and 8 inch secondary beard. Turkeys didn't seem to mind. We were using a DSD hen though which may have helped.

I don't think it matters as long as your pattern is broken up, for a long time I had mismatched camo and I still filled my turkey tags... Good Luck, have fun!

Sit still and you will be fine in blaze orange. The camo pattern doesn't really matter as much as your movement

see all the color they want as long as its a stationary object they don't get to alarmed.

My real point is that the camo pattern does not matter that much. Have shot them wearing plan colored clothes to leafy stuff. Heck had an idea to shoot two in one shot on a trip to KS and then decided to sit on my butt in the middle of a plowed field with only decoys by me, yes wearing a gillie suit in this case. Pulled it off and made cool video from my buddy sitting on the tree line 80 yards away.

Take the camo you have and just go hunt smart, don't over think it

Used elevated forest for 4 dead turkeys last year (2 in mississippi and 2 in Kansas). Two totally different terrains and never had any issues. Florida would be fairly similar to mississippi terrain with palmettos and mixtures of pastures and pine plantations. Had a lot of close encounters with birds in both states and camo pattern was the last thing that prohibited me from calling in a few more for my buddies.

Thanks for the replies. I have both so figured I'd ask. Looking like I will take the verde and forest

The turkeys inhave hunted in Colorado see and will be alarmed by color. Holding still works for elk and deer but turkeys will bust you if you don't blind in. My experience at least

Turkeys are turkeys... Practice good woodsmanship, stay still and you should have no problem killing a few in any camo pattern. I personally do not think it matters what you wear, whether it be camo or solid earthtone colors. Best of luck.

Nick- what do you think about bright orange?

I think as long as you sit still it doesn't matter. I've had countless turkeys walk by me while ground hunting the WI rifle season in blaze orange.

Would I wear blaze orange while turkey hunting? No

Would I go out and buy new camo just for turkey hunting? No

Justin, go back to where I said the real point is don't over think it take what you have and just go hunt.
Like Nick said I also have had them walk very close when wearing orange in WI deer hunting and KS. Am I going to wear it or am I suggesting it, no.
Heck I tend to wear camo and wear orange over it for deer, because my hunting cloths are mostly all camo.
Do I think that the leafy stuff might give a slight edge, yes.......but I really have no proof of that. Just grab what you have get out have some fun chasing the critters we love

I hunted them here in Utah last year in Sitka open country. Worked well for me.

Sitka will work fine but I prefer a little more detailed camo like tusx or some sort of real tree. Especially when I'm not using a blind. Typically sitting still works but once a bird gets inside 20 yards they can pick small details out better. But who knows. Myb I'm crazy and you can wear orange :-)

Ended up using kuiu worked great. Turkey rushed in and was at 10 yards at shot, no blind used. Thanks for the help

18.25 lbs, 9" beard 1 3/8 Spurs. He took a hit front on and took out most of his innards

If you have the option, bring several colors of camo and set them out in the vegetation you will be hunting. Pick the ones that blend in the best! If you are hunting late spring I would guess you would possibly pick different colors than in the fall...or even super early in the spring before things green up? I ALWAYS hunt with different pants than shirt.....that way I break up the human profile.
