I already own the kenai hooded jacket and am planning on using it as a active insulation piece/mid layer. I didn't receive it until Christmas last year so I was only able to do a bit of duck hunting and some early season turkey hunting in it but so far I haven't been super impressed in the breathability or pack ability of the piece.

I was wondering if those that have experience with the ambient could weigh in and help me determine if it's worth keeping the kenai or upgrading to the ambient.

Again I am looking for a active insulation piece for backpack hunting primarily but also something used as a mid layer during whitetail and duck hunting.

Not sure about you, but it would have to be either extremely cold or very minimal exertion for me to consider the Kenai active insulation. I can comfortably wear the Ambient with moderate exercise over a base layer until it gets to about 35 and then I'm too warm.

I really enjoyed the ambient when I had it. I use the navigator hoodie now. Mid layer and then went I go to track a deer, drag, and clean I wear just the hoodie for all that. Similar product. I like the navigator over the ambient. I had the older ambient jacket. I think it was around 150? Now they have a 100 and 200? The 200 was too bulky. The 150 was the sweet spot IMO. I don’t think the 100 is enough.

Location is Michigan. Layers go as such for the winter. All first lite. Furnace/navigator (hike out in that). Then outer layers are put on at the stand or blind or saddle.
