I was disappointed in how much the covers cost and how much they weight. Even the lightest cover is 2.5oz. Most of them cost upwards of $60-70, and a lot of them don’t even stay put. So, I did some research on DIY covers. I can make one for half the weight and 1/5 the cost. I settled on hi-temp silicone tape covered in vet wrap. Welding blanket is another option. I have a thread here somewhere, plus I looked on other forums. Form says it works fine and the silicone doesn’t fuse to the can. You will lose the ability to take it on/off easily, and it won’t work well enough for a gas gun, however for a bolt gun it should be fine. It will give some protection and reduce mirage in a cheap and lightweight package.

Yeah covers suck. They cost money, don’t stay on most of the time and they look dumb.

Anybody recently received a backordered Scythe? Last post I saw here was from a couple of months ago on lead times.

About a month ago my LGS had one in stock but didn't have the funds to cover it at the time. When I went back in hopes it would still be there but knowing better it was gone. Ordered one from Silencer Shop last week just to get in line. And as luck would have it when I went back to the LGS to do my Kiosk prints they notified me they have 4 coming in soon. Not in the greatest hurry to go through possibly canceling the order since Silencer Shop is $200 cheaper and LGS won't match the price knowing they will get full retail from someone else.

I just went through this with a SiCo Switchback can that i had on Back order through silencer shop. The Silencer shop dealer that I was going to have a switchback sent to just happened to receive a switchback direct from SiCo. The local dealer called up there SS sales Rep and got the switchback assigned to me that day. I had to pay the shop directly for the can and now SS is refunding my original purchase. The Eform was submitted the same day and approved (Single shot trust) 3 days later. Ironically My Scythe that was submitted at the end of January, was approved 5 minutes after the Switchback was.

Long story short, convince your local store to call SS and assign that can to you and refund your original purchase. The tax stamp and trust purchase will still be in your SS account and it goes really smooth.

I might give it another shot but the $200 price difference between SS to my LGS pays for the tax stamp. Ideally if I have it by next hunting season it's worth $200 to wait. Just not sure what that wait time might be looking like before I go that route.

It took about a month for them to fill my back ordered Scythe. That was a couple weeks ago.

Looks like the black version of the Sythe Ti is in stock on silencer shop this morning.

Just got my form 4 approved yesterday on mine so pretty short wait!

In a review on the site, a person says that it fits their Dead Air Nomad 30, tightly, which is the same diameter as the Scythe. I ordered one as it seems like a good solution.

Did the FHF cover fit the Sythe?

I was able to order an in stock unit over the weekend. We'll see how long this takes! I'm usually delayed a few hours on a FFL transfer, I'll be amazed if this takes less than 3-4 months.

I ordered one this weekend to. This is my first suppressor and really hoping that I’ll be able to hunt with it this season.

A lgs had the black scythe in stock and I bought it through them but did the paperwork through silencer shop. Certified on 5/18 and got approval today 5/21. Will be picking up this weekend and shooting.

Keep meaning to post a mini review. Purchased the last two in stock Scythe's from my local FFL. Apologies in advance I'm using my phone.

Host rifles.

Top Defiance 308 Winchester 16.5 inch shooting 178 ELDs. Rifle weighs just shy of #9 as it sits.

Bottom Origin 223 WYLDE 22 inch shooting 75 ELDs. Rifle weighs just north of #12 as it sits.

Compress_20240521_153746_6869.jpgScythe no mount. Area 419 titanium mount added an additional 1.3 oz bringing it to 8.8oz. Great suppression and recoil reduction in 308 win. Excellent suppression with less perceived recoil reduction in 223.Compress_20240521_153747_7463.jpgTbac gen2 ultra 5 CB with area 419 mount. This was my first suppressor. If i had to do it over an Ultra7, dominus or Scythe would be a better option. Great can with moderate suppression and little to no recoil reduction. Just takes the edge off and will probably live on a lightweight 6mm or 223 build. Its tiny. Compress_20240521_153747_7767.jpgHybrid 46 with Area 419 mount. Heavy can with specific needs. Overall moderate to good suppression and recoil reduction depending on cartridge. Compress_20240521_153748_8041.jpgCompress_20240521_153748_8306.jpgI forgot to takes pictures of the weight of my 36M but I believe 14.5 oz in the long configuration with the mount if I remember correctly. Excellent suppression with good recoil reduction in the long configuration on both rifles. It's just to heavy. If you need a can for a gas gun, lever and bolt I am very impressed.

Suppressors Silencerco 36M, hybrid 46, Tbac gen2 ultra 5 CB and X2 Scythe's. Not the best comparison but it's what I have available.

2 shooters fired 20 rounds (223 and 308) through each suppressor as they are pictured (mini break attached to each Scythe).

-Sound.
Scythe hands down. Very good deep tone with an interesting hiss from the 308. The 223 was shockingly quiet. Walk away 10 feet and it's even more impressive. I put 60 223 rounds down range last weekend and took my ears off for 5 rounds with no discomfort (I still don't recommend).

-Weight and size.
At only approximately an once more than the ultra 5 (with adapters) slightly longer and thicker the Scythe is hard to beat. Neither of us notice the size or weight difference on either rifle.

-Recoil.
With the ultra 5 recoil reduction is almost non existent. The Scythe on the other hand was impressive and what I was looking forward to most. Between the two of us the Scythe had a 20-25% perceived reduction in recoil compared to the ultra 5 and 5-10% against all others. Spotting hits and misses were greatly increased. Shooting prone in the grass was a non issue with the break on but I could see it being problematic in dryer environments. I will be keeping the break on until I have a reason not too. Compress_20240521_153746_6747.jpg

Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and highly recommend one.

Nice write up Bigwilly. I'm patiently waiting for this whole process to play out but ready to get my hands on mine. Reading your review is making it harder to wait though

I've shot maybe 250 rounds through mine with the 3 port anchor brake and now I cant get the damn thing off.. Seems like frequent end cap changes would be a PITA so that is likely a little less of a benefit than i previously thought.

Trying to get it swapped to hunting mode with a flat cap.. Might try to soak with Carbon Eliminator and hope it helps.
I’m having similar issue with DT adapter on my STI….someone mentioned try right after you shoot while it’s really hot. I haven’t yet but the physics behind that may work.

Right after posting i put that 3 prong wrench in a vise and really got after it and that did the trick. Now i still need to get the DT adapter off the muzzle it stuck to when removing the can.. I'm starting to appreciate the idea of less shit with threads that can lock or release when you dont want it to. No end cap issues or adapter sticking to muzzle issues with my ultra 7.

Think i might roksett the adapter in there..

Seems like a common issue with suppressors that have end caps or are “user serviceable”. You pretty much need to break them free after every use or they get seized up.

My banish 30 is so stuck that I’ve given up on even trying anymore. It’s a 7” supressor now that is no longer “user serviceable”.

I’d imagine my scythe will take some frequent disassembly or the end cap will get stuck as well. It’s actually sort of strange to me they made it wi the a removable end cap.

I have had a Scythe for a few months and have been shooting it on a 7 PRC. It is my first suppressor, so I don't have much to compare it too, but I have been surprised with how well it tames recoil with that end break. I have been shooting max charge loads with 175g bullets from a bipod and a rear bag and it is very mild. It feels very similar to my 6.5 CM/7mm-08/308 type cartridges (unsuppressed/no break). My 12 year old son shot 10 rounds, no problem. The suppressor with the end break makes for a really nice shooting experience and I think the few ounces for the break are definitely worth it.
