If you were to build a short-ish hunting rifle (18-20") in some flavor of 6mm,6.5, 7mm, would you prefer the raptor 8 with 3" reflex or the scythe?

New to supressors so trying to find the utilitarian choice. Could also host on 12.5" AR but may lean towards more dedicated cans for hunting and then AR's.

Something I found to consider... even though there were deals online for $770-800, once I factored in Shipping, and ffl Transfer fees to my local ffl options, it made more sense to buy locally. Most local places I called were in the $999 range, but one said they would do $879, which ended up being cheaper than the several online deals in the end, as I didn't have to pay the ffl extra for shipping or Transfer fees. Plus, because I went through them, they will let me use the suppressor at their onsite range while I wait for the stamp.
I did the same thing - was able to look at the suppressor too. Support the local place. I think it was worth it especially as it is my first.

This is probably a dumb question, and im probably missing something... but are there any aluminum flat end caps out there with the same thread pattern as the scythe endcap? Bravo thread isnt it? that are the same 0.6 ounces as the Ti one at hansohn? Like the JK 155 end caps from JK Armament?

ECCO machine can likely make you an aluminum or titanium one if there isnt any out there. They made a flat end cap for my harvester 300 a couple years ago.

The scythe is lighter than an 8 stack with reflex. Probably about the same no reflex. The reflexes are heavy for amount of sound reduction. Ie a 10 stack is both quieter and lighter than an 8 with reflex. I have a 10 stack and it’s right about 10 oz direct mount, so about 1 oz heavier than the scythe. Also a bit longer and smaller diameter. Should be quieter as it’s 3 more baffles, scythe is only 7. I have a scythe in jail. the raptor comes in 325 and 375, so it can be used on bigger bores.
for a dedicated 556 can I might consider something with an inconel blast baffle especially for a sbr. Will probably be heavier, but should hold up longer.

I was sold on one too until TBAC released these new cans with brakes on the end of them and got my brain spinning. Now i'm thinking a 3 port anchor brake from a Sico Omega on the end of a scythe might be a sweet recoil reducing setup that isn't too loud..

My scythe came in at 8.25oz with brake and DT mount, its lighter than an 8 stack with direct thread mount FWIW. My 8 stack weighs 9 7/8oz with DT mount, my 10 stack weighs 11oz with DT mount. I agree with you that the 10 stack is a bit quieter than the scythe and is probably more robust

I’m fairly ignorant on the why, would you please explain why one want the titanium end cap and what exactly is replacing. Is the end piece plastic on the factory offering?
I got it for my hybrid. I didn’t want to use the 30 cal anchor brake cap because it was adding an extra inch or inch and a half to the overall length of the can and the .46 cal flat cap was noticeably louder than a 30 cal cap.

Since I was going to buy a 30 cal cap anyways I figured for $35 I’d just get the titanium one. It’s a really nice cap and honestly at $35 it was a great value.

On the scythe I think people are considering them for shorter overall length and fewer spots for debris to collect and end up inside the suppressor when hunting. The factory cap is titanium so no issue there.

That’s a great link for suppressor analysis. TBACs cans didn’t fare so hot, so good on them for not burying the results.

I’m in the market for another can (Scythe in jail) for my 6.5 and 223 rifles. Targeting the best suppression I can get for the lowest price in a reasonably weighted can (around 10oz or less with DT). There’s a great deal on an Evo Harvester for $400. I wish that one was on the list.
