SilencerCo Scythe Ti failures

Scythe Ti owners: Have you had a Scythe Ti catastrophic failure?

If you mean rapid structural deconstruction then maybe not. If you mean they completely failed and became unusable then I'd say the Sierra 5 debacle was a bigger failure.

The Sierra 5 were blowing up internally and turning them into maracas at a much higher percentage than the Scythe. They blamed it on their 3rd party manufacturer (KGM) and then went radio silent. People were waiting a year with no recourse or communication on a timeline for getting their suppressor fixed.

It was a colossal disaster.

SiCo might not be doing a recall on these (yet?) but at least they are being repaired and sent back to the owner within 1-2 weeks.

Iv seen a few nomad ti blown up as well. Both not good. Personally wont do business with either company after seeing how both situations.

I don't need any more suppressors but since when has that ever stopped a rokslider?

I have 3 from SiCo that I have been happy with (including a Scythe) but I have been steadily eyeing a TBAC ultra 7, the AB Raptor series, and the new UM can for my next.

So far my Scythe has been problem free, but we'll see how it does as the round count climbs.

I got mine back today and can’t tell anything happened to it. I did email SiCo about the failures in this thread and my concern with my kids potentially shooting with it or what would have happened if I were shooting prone or in an awkward position. I’m sure I’ll get a canned answer from them but we’ll see.

Seeing SiCo knows exactly how many Scythe they’ve sold and how many have been returned due to failure, I’m sure a simple phone call would give us an accurate account :ROFLMAO:

I’m fighting buying a UM can… iv got a gambit of Tbac cans and really can barely keep up with 2 rifles.

It’s fun to keep buying them. I’m glad invested in Tbac early.

I know you are being facetious but in an email I sent them with my concerns, they said far less than 1%. That was over a month ago and this thread hasn't added to many cans blowing up since. I think their # is probably much more accurate than this thread. Still not good tho.

“Far less than 1%”—I’m sure that’s accurate, just an anomaly that Rokslide members experience a much higher rate of failure.

Of course why would they lie about how many failures there really has been.

While I’ve only shot a few hundred rounds through mine, they have all been magnum cartridges. No issues yet.

IMO. There’s a sizable difference between magnum and ultra magnum pressures at the muzzle.

In much of the industry I work in, breaking strength on products has a 4to1 safety factor.

If I were building cans rated for ultra mags unlimited in barrel length, I’d make dam sure none were blowing up with PRC type stuff.

SiCo is FOS. Every "cannned" answer I've seen or read says it's attributed to user error.
I received the following response in red this morning (1 week later).

Hello,

According to my warranty team, your Scythe had a weld failure. Likely due to some sort of defect when the silencer was initially welded. They re-cored and IPG welded your silencer so it's about 75% brand new! I wouldn't worry about such a thing ever happening again.

If suppressors are removed from NFA regulations, I'll be looking to buy a used scythe. I've got a 223 it should be able to handle 🤣🤣

Are these from newer production or something change? This was going to be my next one.

It does not seem to be related to production date. Either SiCo has no idea why they’re failing or they won’t say it publicly.

While I’m in the failure category in this thread, I do think it isn’t as prevalent as this thread would imply. That being said, I won’t buy a second one even though I would like to.

If I were a betting man, I'd be betting higher than 1% failure
Time to go to that Indian casino near you, I think you are betting correctly.

I agree I want to see production date correlation. I don’t shoot hot calibers but I have noticed a similar coating pattern in failures. Either right when they went from solid to the lighter coating/two tone almost

I put about 300 rounds of 6.5 creedmoor handloads through my scythe over the past few weeks. It’s still holding together, but I’m just going to use it for a range toy I think. I have a TBAC ultra 7 and just got the Ti xc and I have a few others to take hunting.

Can you explain that a bit more?
I don’t know what coatings they use. So ignore my jargon.

Initially there was a consistent tan color can for the first 6 or so months that I saw in store(a couple stores and photos, not a ton of data), the can I received was/is get dark almost not coated/treated in blast chamber then baffles change to the tan. 4 months later I see in store ones that are very dark throughout, more of a raw heat treated titanium no treat/coating.

I am basing off new. Mine hasn’t changed colors. I do weld often but not titanium. It’s not a heat deal it’s something with their coatings and I did get concerned when I started seeing changes. Then noticed the two tone… newer don’t seem to be blowing apart and the initial cans don’t either. I’ll send mine to someone with a 16” 300 to see but I know with my calibers it shouldn’t fail. The a-10 ss can won’t I guarantee with how many rounds I’ve put through it, and it’s newer I just like the weight and sound on that gun. A longer I might ponder the new OG
