SilencerCo Scythe Ti failures

Scythe Ti owners: Have you had a Scythe Ti catastrophic failure?

Ouch. Y’all making me nervous. Just got the Scythe and have maybe 50 rounds through it. Wish I would have seen this thread before I bought it..
A lot of us are in that same boat. This thread was started while I was waiting for mine to get approved.

I have it on a 22” 6.5cm and soon a 22” 7PRC. Guess I’ll see what happens…

Does sound like SiCo is good about fixing them, but still a crappy situation to be in.

It appears the “repeat” failures are different cans and not the same can failing twice. Has there been any reports of the same can failing twice?

You can add me to the list of failures. 18” 6UM.

I put about 60 rounds of 6.5 creedmoor and 153 rounds of 6um through it before it went.
Did it smack the overhang at the range? I’m not understanding how else the front would have broken in that way

There is a barrier about 10ft in front of the bench to prevent people shooting over the backstops. You can see it in the background here. It hit that and bounced back to me.

That makes sense. Glad there were no injuries

I’m thinking I’ll run ten rounds each of 6.5prc and 300prc through ours to prove them. I’ll report back when I do.

What if 11 is the magic number? Joking, kind of....

Truthfully, I don't know anything about titanium, but any metal/weld fatigue/failures that i have seen have been cumulative results.

250 rounds of 260ai on mine, but as others have stated this thread makes me nervous…

I now have appx. 900 rds of 6 CM, 200 rds of 22 CM, 50 rds of 6.5 CM and 1,000 rds of 223 through my Scythe. No outward signs of failure yet, but like a lot of other guys, have my confidence shaken in it.

Signed up for a PRS Match this coming Sunday and will be shooting the 22 CM. Initially was going to use the Wolfhunter, but instead going to go with the Scythe. 10 round strings of fire will be a good stressor. Also, if it goes during the event, I’ll be wearing hearing pro and glasses.

Looking forward to seeing how it does with that

My lady used the Scythe-Ti in conjunction with a RecoilX brake this last weekend at a prs match. I was thinking, damn I hope that thing holds together for her! Please don't fail today! 85° 10-12 Rd strings, it's just a 6gt running pretty low psi loads, it did fine. It's been shot quite a bit on 473 bolt face cases but very little on magnums.

Just take a lesson from me and have your zero shift from bare muzzle to scythe installed recorded, so you don't have to try to figure it out during the match if it does fail on you.

Copy that. Will have the shift logged between it and the Wolfhunter. This barrel has never had a round fired without being suppressed.. not about to let an exploding can change that.

Mine is a very early one with 300 rounds from a 20" 6.5x47 and probably 100 from a 21" 270 wsm. Before I had a new barrel put on the 270 wsm I fired my last 15 rounds through it in less than 5 minutes. I probably won't ever run it that hard again. I have other suppressors for my high volume stuff.20240927_224037.jpg

I’m one of those people who joined the forum just to report my failure and hopefully help inform potential suppressor buyers.

7PRC 22” barrel, shooting pretty moderate reloads (160 grain Barnes pushed by Retumbo, just under 3000 fps). Maybe 200 rounds through my Scythe Ti. Today at the range I had a big boom and the front end of the can was sent downrange 40 yards. No baffle strike, and the bullet went perfectly on target. It was a weld failure similar to others on this thread. No rapid firing through the can today or ever. I usually wait at least a minute between shots, and 5 minutes between strings. Even the few times I’ve been in a hurry I’ve NEVER shot more than three rounds in a minute, and always rested the gun after that for five minutes.

Will be talking with SilencerCo on Monday. I’m hoping they can tell me how their repair will improve the reliability of the suppressor, but I doubt I’ll get that from them. I don’t think I can trust this suppressor after I get it back.
