I don’t see anything that looks different here than on my early SN scythe that hasn’t been sent in.

The welds on the stack look different. Yours appear to be convex with material layed down on the outside, while @docdb appears to have stack welds placed level to the outer surface and presumably deeper into the material.

I am a very unskilled welder, so don't know enough to say anything on strength with certainty, but depending on how the weld was laid down, the repair welds could be stronger.

Some crappy art of a possible cross section visual.

Maybe. They look the same to me lol maybe a difference in lighting but it doesn’t look like any changes were made on the repaired can to me. Nothing beyond possible variation between units at least

Update since I received my suppressor back last week. I don't have any pics yet but will try to grab some tonight.

  • Weight is the same. My Scythe new weighed 8.40 oz and the replacement weighed 8.45 with a little carbon still in the original section.
  • Every section of my suppressor looks new minus the one baffle section with the serial number and the direct thread mount still had some dirt on it like I shipped it in. All the new baffle sections have a slightly different surface finish than the original. It's tough to capture in a photo, but I'll try.
I sent SiCo the following message in blue when I received my suppressor.

(Name Redacted),

Thank you for getting my suppressor repaired so quickly.

Now that you guys were able to evaluate my suppressor and repair it, I wanted to ask if the warranty group, or yourself, had any feedback on how I can avoid the suppressor separating moving forward? I have only used this suppressor on one host firearm, a hunting rifle (Tikka T3 bolt gun, 6.5 PRC, with a 20" barrel), and I have never fired more than 5 shots in a strand without letting it cool. I would consider this a very mild firing schedule, so I was surprised to have the suppressor fail on me. I have carried this firearm and suppressor combination on all my hunts last year and would hate to miss an opportunity on a hunt this year if my suppressor fails on me again in the field. Any information or recommendations you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I received the following response in red this morning (1 week later).

Hello,

According to my warranty team, your Scythe had a weld failure. Likely due to some sort of defect when the silencer was initially welded. They re-cored and IPG welded your silencer so it's about 75% brand new! I wouldn't worry about such a thing ever happening again.

I pray for you guys who currently have them, but their still not getting my money. Sounds like they are starting to acknowledge there is a problem but still not doing anything to fix it until it comes apart and they have to.

Has there been any second failures? If not sounds like you just have to blow up the first one & then you are set.
I have one sitting on the shelf since early December waiting on seekins m3,, maybe I should put it on the 300 rum & then it if goes I will have a new one when the M3 finally arrives & never have to worry about it again.

At least one person on here had multiple failures.

I received my Scythe Ti back quickly. Granted mine blew apart and I couldn’t find the front half, but the only original part left is the serialized section and the direct thread mount. I included a note with mine when I sent it in explaining that I had recently switched out the end cap to a solid one and asked for a replacement of the same, which they included.

The welds look different, the new sections are coated/textured differently than the original can was, which you can see in the photos.

Now do I shoot it as is, or sell it and move on to a different brand?

I think the used market for cans isn’t very strong. Too much A pain.

I’d shoot it. It’s a great can. Just oversold on its capabilities.

If you have a less powerful cartridge it will do great. I have mine still on a magnum short barrel. It’s hanging in there. If I was worried about it I’d toss it on the 6C or 6.5C or lesser and shoot it without much concern.

I’ve only used it on my 22” 300prc. I might build a .223 trainer though.

You can add me to the list of failures. 18” 6UM.

I put about 60 rounds of 6.5 creedmoor and 153 rounds of 6um through it before it went.

Ouch. Y’all making me nervous. Just got the Scythe and have maybe 50 rounds through it. Wish I would have seen this thread before I bought it..
