Sierra Heavy TMK 6MM Testing

What velocities was the creed shooting (understanding it was a low charge)? I’ve got an 18” 1:7 twist that would likely shoot these fine, but I’d be curious what 41-43 grain of h4350 would get.

38.5gr avg. 2,691fps MV from the 18” barrel. Way under what it should be. Should be up around 2,850fps.

116 grainers today. Dropped to 35gr of IMR4166 in the XC.

Shooting order as labeled. Pretty heavy mirage off the suppressor stating at the 7th shot.

Trued BC at 1,005 yards. 14.5” tall by 18” wide target. .590 G1 BC was used. 2,802fps average MV across 17 shots.

Started with 7 shots- all hit. Then shot 2x of the 115gr load from yesterday as well- both hit. .585 G1 BC for the 115gr, and .590 G1 BC for the 116gr were spot on.

@Formidilosus Did they send over any of the 107 TMK's? I would imagine that in a short 6 CM (16-18") they would be pretty optimal in the 2900-2950 fps range.

Formidilosus what are your thoughts on the 107s? Are the numbers listed above for those 107s realistic numbers? What are the specs on your test rifle, if you don’t mind me asking.

Can you clarify something. Are you saying that with 38.5gr of H4350 behind the 115-117 bullet you would have expected 2850 with an 18” barrel? It seems a little fast to me, but I could be very wrong. You’re more experience in that that me

41ish grains H4350 is pretty common load in a 6cm with heavy bullets, that'd be going another 150fps than what he had going on.

First pitch with a Tikka 243 1-8 - factory barrel. This rifle usually shoots around 1.0's for 10 with 109 ELD-M's. Was a little concerned there could be twist issues, but it doesn't seem like it. ~ 4500 DA today.

Had to jump ~ .040" to fit in the M+ mags, that's where these were seated.

40 gr H4350 gave low 2800's. No pressure signs, lots of radius left on the primers, could turn it up a bit for certain.

Two bullets put 10 rounds into 1.1's, one was .8's.

Shot the 116's at 1011, a .290 G7 worked out just right. There was some wind in some terrain, so take that for what it's worth. The 7 rounds I shot at distance had very low vertical, less than the mechanical size of the group at 100.

More to come.

I sent UM some specs for some 6mm loads at 42.2 of H4350 with the 109s. Hopping to hear something back by mid week about it. I don’t hand load but I’ve heard those 108s UM loads are pretty spicy.

As far as velocity, absolutely. I send 112 Match Burners at 2940 fps from an 18" bbl with 41.8g of H4350.

What's the barrel length on that 243? I was hoping these might work for my Tikka 243. Mine is throated out 0.100 and I use LA mags, so I can cram a good bit of h1000 in there for the 115-117 should I get them.
