After fixing light strike issues and changing scope mounts, took the T3 Varmint .223 out to function test. Works great now, except the 6rd magazine follower spring sucks... 10rds of cheap PMC X-Tac 55gr at 100yds. I have some 77gr SMK heading my way and I'm hoping to see it tighten up some.

From the weekend. My best 10 rounds were from the 17 HMR, but I also have the worst group from my .223 posted. With the .223 I tried shooting from a couple different positions, breaking position and through the barrel mirage. Lots to improve on for me for actual practical shooting. image_cropper_D32F3259-CD9D-4392-828C-7993251E5801-83781-0000084B3064A79E.jpeg

Not ten rounds but I thought I'd share for fun... brought my oldest (8yo) with me, and after shooting some .22lr he decided he was ready to try the .223 for the first time. After a couple shots on cardboard at 50yds, he said "it's loud but it doesn't actually hurt!" He demanded I draw him a box on paper and to shoot at 100yds. I would've been proud if he just hit the paper, but he put all 5 in the 3"-ish box, from an awkward sit/stand position. Not sure how that compares to other 8yo kids but I'm extremely proud for his first time pulling the trigger on a centerfire.

Did you share load data? Appollogies as I did not find it. Just curious.
I did somewhere in the forum, but can’t remember where, so I’ll repost.

Note: I did rent a Uni-Throater and lengthen the throat, so I have a long COAL. Adjust your loads appropriately.

77TMK Load:
COAL: 2.550”
Primer: CCI 400
Brass: Starline
Powder: 24.5 grs TAC
Avg Velocity: 2,771 @ 1,230’ ASL

I will be running a powder ladder to find pressure. This load is under pressure, and on the slow side, but was extremely accurate, so I used it for my hunting load in Montana, since I didn’t have much time for load dev before my trip. Also, primarily switching to CCI 450 primers. The cups on the 450 are harder than on the 400.

My dad has been talking about getting a new rifle with a shorter barrel to use with a soon to be purchased suppressor. He can’t imagine using a creedmore as his trusted 270 is already “marginal” if he ever goes after elk with me. I have a 6.5 Creed CTR in a bravo that shoots great, but despite my best efforts, I couldn’t convince him to use it.

For an early Christmas gift, I picked up a T3x Lite .308 barrel from JA outdoors that was already cut and threaded at 20” and had a gunsmith swap it onto the CTR action.

After getting it zeroed, here’s the next 10 shots with cheap federal blue box ammo (my dad doesn’t like the damage he’s seen from match bullets and never shoots past 300 yards).

I usually shoot prone from a pack but just went to a range and used a bench today to make it easy. Apparently I forgot how to shoot off a bench, as this would have been a ~1.8” 10-shot group if I hadn’t let the rear bag slide off the bench causing the low-left shot.

Pretty happy with it so far, balances better than the heavy CTR barrel and clearly shoots better than I can. Can’t wait to see what it can do with heavier bullets and a suppressor when we decide to stretch its legs.
