Looks good to me. My phone says the Density Altitude is 469ft. I just loaded some 80 eldms and cfe223 because I have it. Like everything else, it shoots great out of my Tikka.

My first time using SWFA scopes. Fixed 6 that my .260 now uses and my wife now uses on her .243

Got my .260 dialed in and dead on at 200 yards on paper. Switched to the gong for final two magazines plus 1 “group”. 8 shots and 8 hits at 200 yards, no time spent between shots other than switching magazines. Laying prone in the grass, lightweight bipod and lightweight rear rest field pad that velcroes to my bino harness. That’ll work for me!




Heading to Wyoming next week, then Minnesota the week after, capping it off with Arizona at the end of November. Should be a fun big game season with the .260 and a new scope to try.

Working up a load today and for some reason I decided to shoot a 10 shot group. This is from a Veil Wideland .270 that I put into a B&C stock. For some reason I didn’t take a picture of the tape measure on the group. Group was 2.5” shot at 400 yards (0.625 MOA)

Did some load development yesterday with my 30-06. These were ten with the 175 gr Sierra TMK, five over 58.5gr of H4350 and another five over 59gr. Measured about 1.1" and averaged 2838 and 2869 fps respectively out of an 18" barrel with a 7" suppressor.

I have an T3 Lite SS in 308 and a spare T3 action, that I was planning on getting a heavy 308w barrel.. but it doesn't seem to be needed.

For a big game hunting rifle absolutely not. Extra weight is a no go for me.

Heavy = easier to shoot well, likely less finicky, slower to heat up, less recoil, suckier to carry. Guess it depends how much the suckier to carry part matters to you.

I have found lightweight barrels do cool down quicker. I’m not suggesting competition shooters are missing the boat on not shooting sporter barrels, but for good ole long distance range time they manage well.

Lightweight = heats quicker, cools quicker. Really though a bigger barrel with more surface area will be capable of transferring heat energy to the atmosphere faster than the lighter barrel with less surface area, it’s just capable of storing more energy. So while they may manage, they aren’t really better at much besides being easier to carry.

No groups to publish but the tikkas I've owned shot better with a hot barrel than any other gun I've used. Didn't seem to matter how hard I pushed it at a range session, the groups really didn't open up that much.

Tikka CTR 1:8 223 Rem. Random load I had for a different 223. 60 gr Vmax and Varget. 10 rounds at 100.

I too have a Tikka T3 Lite in 308 and just did some load work yesterday. Decided to shot (5) 3 shot groups. Cold Bore then 2 quick follow up shots just to see. Then let barrel cool completely, repeat the next charge weight, and again until I reached book max of 47g of Varget. 46.5 opened up some. Unless you plan on shooting a lot, I have to agree with the others, you don't need a trailer axle as a barrel.

Currently in the neighborhood of 2k rounds down the barrel of the 223 now and no more than a paper towel to wipe down the action from time to time in regards to cleaning. I’ve thought about cleaning it for no real good reason but I think I’ll just keep shooting for now…

About 1k rounds down the barrel of the .223 CTR 20". Just re-zeroed my practice load from the hunting load. 10rd group. Adjusted up a tenth.
