Short Barrel 6 Creedmoor?

You must be stepping on it pretty hard, I worked up to pressure (heavy swipes) and backed off a little and settled at 2900fps with the exact same components.

I did this in the Texas summer heat at 500’ elevation.

It’s a pretty warm load, but this barrel has just been faster than most. I worked this load up in June in west Texas and started seeing pressure at about 3055. If I shoot it after it’s sat in a hot pickup all day, the primers may be slightly flattened, but have never had any ejector marks or heavy bolt lift even in 100+ temps.

Anyone tried replacing H4350 with N550?

I plan to when I get my 6cm back from the smith. I will shoot a ladder to max for both H4350 and N555 with 108 ELDM's. Not much information out there I have found.

I don't. 105 hornady black was only around 2750 in my 18" tube but that was @ around 120 rounds down the barrel and it might not have been fully sped up.

I wouldn't worry much about changing powder based on barrel length. H4350 seems to be the most common choice. Seems some folks prefer RL16 but hell if i'm going to pay $60+ per lb of powder when I have a good stash of h4350 and could buy more for $37/#.

I should have an 18" tube done here soon. Plan is 108's, H4350, and alpha LRP brass. 2900+ in a shorty suppressed barrel sounds awesome.

18” 6 Creed running 108 ELD-Ms over a stout load of H4350 in Lapua SRP brass with CCI-450s. It’s going to get a 16” barrel when I burn this one up.

That's damn fast for a 18in 6CM 108's and H4350.

You must be stuffing somewhere around 45-45+gr of 4350 in those cases and are you seating them out real close to, if not, touching the lands?

I believe I’m about .020” off the lands. I’m not going to share my actual powder charge for safety sake, but it’s well under that.

Not exactly what you’re looking for. But factory 108 eldm shoots 2850 out of my 20” barrel.

I’d say for me I don’t have a great reason aside from it seemed like a good hybrid of astetics, velocity, and weight savings for my build. I think ballistically it’s almost negligible for the distances I’m comfortable shooting on game and even less so on targets. That being said I am not considering a shorter barrel at this point and like how my build turned out as a whole.

I don't like running at max, id much rather have plenty of margin for all conditions. Seems like low/mid 3000's is a comfortable place for comp shooters w/26" barrels which should put 18" somewhere low/mid 2800s. Haven't worked up a pressure ladder with handloads even in mine, just been shooting factory so far but with a slightly shorter than SAAMI throat i'm getting sticky bolt lift with factory 105 hornady black at 2750 FPS. Norma 107 Golden Target is in the low/mid 2800s though without pressure.

I'm still sending blanks to smiths to chamber. One of these days I might get smarter and start saving $ with the price point prefit options..

Was searching for 6 Creed shorty info and came across this thread, thought I’d share my results. Factory Howa barreled action, with Hornady 108 ELD-M box ammo (small sample size of 5 shots)

24” - 2980 fps
16” w/ Ultra 5 - 2630 fps

Dropped a lot more velocity than I expected, but it’s still more than sufficient for the intended purpose.
