I'm somehow better at offhand than seated unsupported. I definitely need to get back to practicing that instead of just shooting rocks/long range stuff.

Criss cross applesauce is how I learned with a red ryder back in cub scouts and it's the most effective position I've tried but I suck at seated unsupported shooting. Even back then I was better off hand than seated probably from the numerous hours and thousands of BBs I shot running around my grandparents property back then.Anything like that with feet flat on the ground seated or kneeling is wobble city for me.
For seated I like criss cross applesauce as low as I can go with the knees and torso.
I can do it, I just don't because my hit rate will go down.Huh? Just try it, it's really easy.
Kind of off topic but is there something similar you would recommend for pistol shooting? My fiancee has recently gotten interested in shooting pistols and I could definitely use some practice. For unsupported positions- go to an Appleseed shoot.

Is there a good way to vet a quality class? There isn’t. Pistols you need a legit quality class.
Instructors who are Rangemaster certified are going to be good skill level and proper technique, but may or may not be able to instruct/coach well.Is there a good way to vet a quality class?
I'll preface this with I'm not an instructor and haven't taken the S2H class, but have taken a lot of other classes. I'm in the position of a lot of folks who've taken "long range" classes and competed, where I'm seeing what lessons from that style of shooting actually translate to hunting.Just came to ask the same question. Would love to take this class. I suck but am relatively new so trying to learn before the bad habits are cemented![]()
Wow, that's extensive! I haven't had a chance to read in depth but will later after work.I'll preface this with I'm not an instructor and haven't taken the S2H class, but have taken a lot of other classes. I put this Google doc together to help teach a couple friends that live in another state. It's basically a collection of instructional links with some principles I picked up from the various classes I've taken and some of it is stuff I've pulled from Rokslide.
Some of the information might be a little different than the S2H class and I'm all ears for learning better ways of doing stuff!

Here is a copy of the Shooting Training Tracker spreadsheet I created to monitor my practice. If you want to use the tracker, you'll want to copy/paste the information into your own spreadsheet.
