I figure there is a TON of discussion about the Large vs Small Caliber thing, but what people do always has more meaning to me than what they say. To that end, I am just curious if any of those that have attended the course, ultimately decided to keep their big guns, as opposed to going with a "smaller caliber" (say 6.5 CM or below recoil wise)? If you did take the course and did NOT switch, can you tell me why? Appreciated.

Background: I am trying to decide if I should take my 7PRC or my 65CM as my "once in a lifetime" rifle.

I suspect that the people who attend the course are largely already on the small caliber train, though I may be mistaken.

My rationale is that the course educators are the biggest proponents of the small caliber argument. Why would you pay them lots of money to learn if you don’t already trust them?

But maybe I’m wrong!

Agreed, but you know what assuming does 😂

I don’t know, maybe read what is written in context, instead of just looking to argue.

I shot +/- 6,000 magnum rounds last year. How many did you shoot?
Not as many as you! When do you suggest a magnum over a piss ant cartridge?

I guess we should also define magnum. Assuming you aren’t talking about a 22um or 6um when you say “magnum”.

I haven't been to the course yet, I shoot a reasonable amount (3k plus rounds a year), I am fully on board and have witnessed small cartridges be very effective on game, but I'm still keeping my 300 Norma. Why? I like shooting it.

I cannot shoot it as well as my creed, but I can shoot it well enough and love the rifle. If you have that same love for a 7 PRC, keep it and enjoy it!

That being said, for any volume of fire or practice, I shoot 10x more on my smaller rifles for every time I pull the trigger on the big one, I'd shoot a ton less if all I had was my Norma.

Bring both.

And yes- I hope people keep using big cartridges. They have a place. Interesting how people think we are anti-magnums.

I would, but flying, so bringing 3 really not an option. I need to pick one. I have time to decide.

This was not meant to start any arguments. I really am curious as to decisions people made after class. I will formulate my own by June 14, but was still curious as to my original question

I have taken most of the stocks and scopes off my Remington 700 style actions and sold them. The barreled actions are all sitting in the corner, 6.5 prc, 7 prc, 28 nosler, 300 rum. I have moved on to tikkas in 22 cm, 6cm, 6.5 cm, 6prc and 25-7prc. Took the 6prc hunting all season and have been shooting the 6.5cm for NRL.

No argument started.

I would suggest that you bring both of those rifles. How often will you get to shoot 1,000 plus rounds in a week, with focused coaching in a relatively unique environment and varied terrain? It’s worth a second checked rifle case (or shipping a rifle) to get the information and experience of them being used, side by side. It is very much an experiential learning environment.

10-4. Gonna do that. For those "hunt" rifles, 50 rounds each adequate? or more?

150 each is what most wish they would have brought. 100 minimum.
Form,

I am scheduled for your class in Jun 15-19.

I have a 223 build with UM in the works. I spoke with them and the last thing I’m waiting on is for my barrel to be chambered, but I’m on the list for May which may be cutting it close for using the rifle in the course.

The catch is that I am left handed. So here are my questions?

Do you have left handed practice rifles if so that is an easy answer?

If not would you recommend that I use my 6.5 PRC for the class or shoot a right handed rifle? I also have an AR in 223 and a 308 Tikka

If they don’t have my rifle ready until close to the class could y’all hold it there until the class?

Any suggestions, thoughts, recommendations would be appreciated thanks.

Remind me, and I will make sure you have a the rifle for the class.

We don’t have any LH rifles, but have access to one.

Well make sure you have your 223 for the class, and yes we can bring it.
