Tikka 223: Pierced Primers and Firing Pin Size

There definitely appears been a change in the last year or two. Notice the different firing pin bodies and hole sizes.

I called Beretta again yesterday to clarify. "Thats strange. We're going to have to get back to you."

I just went and measured the .223 that I referenced was piercing primers on Bonefrog 77 gr TMKs. Firing pin is .068", firing pin hole is in the neighborhood of .080". Brand new 6.5 PRC has a firing pin diameter of .068", firing pin hole is around .070".

I’ve worked/ consulted in numerous large firearm & archery manufacturing companies… they all seem to have a quarantine area with “out of spec” parts that are too good to throw away, or old revisions… sooner or later upper management tells quality or warranty to clear them out. So they match up old parts, modify as needed, run them by engineering (hopefully) and ship them out :)

My guess that’s where a then thou under fp and bolt came from.

If the 400s are a problem someone should tell UM. I'm bummed to read this thread because I have a brand new threaded 16" Tikka and a couple boxes of bonefrog that I haven't shot yet. Are the pierced primers damaging the firing pin? Like is it worth shooting them and seeing if they run for me or should I just use it up in my gas guns?

Anyone know what primer black hills is using? I have a case of that stuff 😂
