Just got back from my first hunting trip. Learned a lot and making some changes for my next one. One of them is my rifle. It's a 300wm Franchi Momentum and while I like the rifle itself, I can't stand the cartridge.

So I'm looking at the 6-6.5 mils, .243, 25-06, and maybe a .308 for a new cartridge.

Basically significantly less recoil than what I have now as I know I'm developing a bit of a flinch, cheapish ammo with good factory options. Able to drop a mule deer at 500yards with practice of course. I did think about a 223 practice rifle, but decided that I'd rather just keep rifles I enjoy shooting.

So if there is a current special or deal going on, maybe wait for black Friday idk. But any suggestions will be appreciated.

The cartridge wont matter. Go shoulder some rifles and buy what you like in anything around that 6.5.

Yeah I meant caliber. Is there a good length for factory loads? Hiking deer trails the last few days had me looking at shorter barrels.
