This is interesting, I thought there'd be 1/3rd to 1/2 shooters.

For those with the sketch skills, can you draw I'm the spine, scapula, rib cage?

I was going to draw something, but at this point the thread is kinda on topic

I'll leave my kindergarten, etch a sketch, cave man drawing phallic symbols out of it.

Suprised no one said to use the "force" to quietly move the stick out of the way and then shot through the opening. (Trad guy would prefer 15-20yards , so no I would not shoot)

Nobody with a 950gr ranch rocket that ain't worried about that little tree?

Thought with those setups you didn't worry about skeletal placement.

I think that only works if you have also sprinkled your 300% foc broadhead/weights/collar setup with a bit of fairy dust first. Or maybe you were supposed to snort the fairy dust first, then you're ready to ignore bones? I dont know. I get so confused.

I have video of him getting up I'll try and add today.

In the moment I thought the dark spot that I highlighted in green was the end of his rib cage, but wasn't sure as a little further back seemed to be moving more for respiration. It made me then wonder if the green highlight was the crease behind the scapula.

Can't decide still.

I think when laying down especially you will see the guts move a lot from breathing. Watch a video of an elk bugle and how much his belly moves. It's not so much the chest moving as the whole center.

I feel like the lungs are centered between the 2 trees, and low. There's a little trailing lung area on the right side of the trees. Probably 3-4".

The second picture where he is starting to rise up everything is moved back, he is getting his front legs under him, shifting things rearward before he kicks up with back legs.

I'll buy that all day long. When bedded things get mooshed into places we aren't used to seeing. I don't think those bedded elk/deer targets are very realistic because I usually see animals lay their hind on a hip.

No shot for me. What would I do? Probably stand there wondering what to do until he smelled me and vacated.

I would not have called. I would have backed up and tried to find a new path.

There's a possibility I could have talked myself into a shot but only if I got to 100% confidence in what I was looking at.

Slipped up on a cow last year in similar fashion. Was just easing along and looking, cleared a big spruce and there she was bedded up in front of me in easy bow range. Only problem was that heifer was facing up hill where I had just stepped into view not down hill. I gave her an 8.5 for her Barney Rubble departure.

The fact that he's facing away tells me there's other elk watching his six or he has confidence in the wind blowing on his back.

Two plays; ninja double time to the trees on the right of the image. If he gets up, the shot op opens....but it's not going to wait....or, full punt and slip out to try again later.

If you camp out on this setup he's going to blow out like Usain Bolt from the starter blocks.

Personally, with this much time in the season, I would press my luck and try to close the gap and be ready to bark.
