Shoot in bed?

At that range I could thread the needle through the V between those two little trees with my .300 RUM and even if I skimmed the tree a little the shrapnel from a 200 grainer would still have sufficient energy. Lol! I could…. But I wouldn’t. Never that anxious or desperate. He’s gotta get up eventually. If he smells me I might not have a millisecond to shoot but since I’m ready I might.

EDIT: Just watched the video. He’s going in the freezer!

You are sneakycreeping and when you apex the crest of ridge you see this elk's ear flicker.

Are you shooting? Simple as that, if not, what are you doing? If you shoot, where's your arrow go?

For the sake of discussion, this is an elk that you would shoot any second of the hunt regardless of if size or sex.

Mid-day
No wind, but you can feel a touch on the back of your neck and know you are a few feet higher in elevation than the elk.

There are no other elk in sight, the rut is a few weeks out. You are by yourself.

@KickinNDishin and I were talking through this yesterday.
I shot my bull in Wyoming two years just like this: 43 yards, slight quartering away, bedded. Send it if you have a clear shot!

Is that a clear shot?!?!?

Watching him get up makes me think there's more vitals showing while bedded than I had thought.

This is why I carry good binos. Not only does it allow you to determine if that's a log or an elk, but helps you really pick things apart as to what you are seeing.

I still say no shot while bedded, but perhaps with glass I could have distinguished a bit more and felt like the vitals were exposed. To watch the video it looks like his vitals were further back than I thought from the still.

That dark spot you circled looks like it might be the humorous.

Alone with iffy wind? Draw & hold in this opening. Make a light cow call or scuff my foot & wait for him to stand & walk forward into the spot & let 'er rip
