I'd personally not shoot anything larger than the 1.5 on elk. I shot my elk this year on a quartering to shot. I snuck the arrow just behind the arm bone and got heart and lungs. The blood trail was decent for not getting a pass through and the elk didnt make it far. I also used the 1.5 on muledeer this year and managed to botch my shot into the arm bone which the broadhead did pivot around but it sucked out a lot of penetration due to one blade having to do the cutting at an extremely sharp angle. I ended up giving him a follow up shot with an iron will (which also didnt pass through). blood trail on the muledeer was actually better than the elk. I got to play around with the wound channel on the muledeer and can tell you that the arrow continued strait even after pivoting around the arm bone. The bottom line is I feel that the 1.5 is a lot more forgiving head and has a better blade angle.

One year I put one of the old Ulmer Edge SS 1.5's in my quiver for a potentially long range follow up shot if needed. So, I get a shot at a big 6x6 and my buddy who was on his belly in the grass next to me gave me the wrong range somehow. Anyway he was further than the range I was given (after we ranged it later) but when I shot I assumed I hammered him. I never see my arrows in flight.

The bull runs in front of us and then stops and leans up against an aspen tree facing dead away. I'm thinking "awesome.....fall over". I still didn't know that I had in fact shot under him......just grazing his chest. So while waiting for him to fall, I nocked that Ulmer Edge arrow just for kicks and giggles. The bull finally took a couple steps and then turned to his right giving me a quartering away shot angle at his right side. I quickly estimated 55 yards in my head, drew back, and released. After the hit it sounded like the arrow hit wood. I thought maybe there was some blowdown wood on the other side of him that the arrow hit.

While I stood there, I sent my buddy to the spot so I could range it........54 yards.......so it was a good hit. There was blood right there where he stood and then found my arrow about 20 yards further just laying in the grass......covered with good blood from tip to tip. Turns out, that arrow blew right through his offside humerus bone, after passing through his quartering away body. Granted.......I'm shooting 75lbs, 32 1/2" draw, and a 500+ grain arrow.......but that's pretty impressive penetration, with energy to spare. I would totally try the 2.1's if I didn't care for those swinging blades. But there's always the Trypans.

I shot a 6x6 bull quartering away from 54 yards
