Setting up a 3 pin slider...no 20 yard pin

I'm setting up a 3 pin spot hogg fast eddie xl. I just got my 30-40-50 yards pins dialed in.

Now I'm looking at the directions and it says I need to sight in at 20 yards, and then 60. How do I go about doing this since I only have a 30 yard pin not a 20? I cannot move the dial any further down to get to 20 yards.

1) Make a mark at your 20 yard.
2) Dail your sight up, aim with your sliding pin at 20 yards. Get it dialed perfect.
3) Then slide it down to 60 and get that mark. Spend a lot of time here

Your other option is to use a chronograph speed and it will be close. If you use one that captures velocities at distance it's probably better than you are.

What do you mean by make a mark at my 20 yard?

Also, my 30 pin is set and I cant physically move the dial any lower. I can move the dial and drop my pins but cant bring them UP any higher.

Thanks for your input

You can still get a sight tape, it'll just be a few extra steps. Since you have your 30 yard pin sighted in, here's what I'd do:
  1. Put a plain piece of masking tape or painters tape on the wheel. put a mark at the indicator needle as your 30 yard mark.
  2. Dial down a little bit and shoot in your 40 yard mark using your 30 yard pin. Get this exact and put a mark on the tape as a 40 yard mark
  3. Dial down a little more and shoot your 30 pin in at 50 yards. Mark it at 50
  4. Continue out for as far as you can comfortably shoot and get good marks.
  5. Remove the tape from the sight wheel and line up the 30/40/50/60/+ marks you made against the sight tapes. One of them should match your marks close enough out to distance. Cut out the sight tape, but do not put the sight tape on yet.
  6. Dial the sight back to the zero'd position where your pins are at 30/40/50 again. Assuming you want to use the bottom pin (50 yard pin) as your slider, put the sight tape on aligning the 50 yard line on the sight tape with the indicator.

Use regular tape or a sticky pad mark every 10 yards from 30 - 100 then use the sight tape that alligns with the hashes. Works great.

I use a 30 also and its only 2" high at 20.

Great, this looks easy enough.

My indicators (I have 3) are all next to eachother as they came from the factory. How should I go about setting up that first one for 30 yards since I'm starting with masking tape and not the calibration tape they provided

Take the screw facing the picture out, and then take the stop off with the two screws away from the pocture. It will roll another 70 yards.

Gotcha. So by doing that I'll be able to roll up even more...would I just use the 30 yard pin? At this point I think I will just use what the other people are recommending with some masking tape. But if that does not work, I will try your method.Thank you

Yes, that pin you are calling a 30yd pin is actually an any pin depending on where you roll that dial. By rolling it up to 20yards you will be able to follow spot hogg's instructions for finding the right tape for you.

If you are worried about losing your 30yd zero, just put the calibration tape on the dial and take a picture of where the middle indicator is. When finding the 20yd zero follow the instructions to roll the dial, then align the top indicator with the 20 on the calibration tape. You then will know that to get back to your 30yd zero you will only need to roll the dial so the middle indicator is back to the prior line.

That's not the place id make an adjustment. You have your sight housing mounted in the absolute highest holes, putting your pins extremely low. Move it down a screw hole and you'll be in business with your dial.

When I first put the sight on, it was hitting really low. Brought the pins down as far as I wanted and arrows were still hitting low.

My next step was to bring the whole housing down...as you can see in have the housing mounted on the highest holes and its low on the vertical rod that goes up and down. Wasn't sure what else to do

Are you saying to move the housing back up on the vertical rod and just have my starting positiong with the housing closer to midway on that vertical rod?

Hope that made sense. This issue has been annoying me the last few days

Your sliding rod isn't low, it's high. Then your housing is low to compensate.

Here's how I have mine set up, can dial from 20 to 100 plus with my bottom pin. Currently set to the home position of 70.

Ok I'm gonna give this a try.

For some reason I was under the impression that I had to keep that vertical sliding rod high so that I had the entire rod to use to keep dialing it for further ranges.

It appears that you have your housing pretty much centered on that vertical sliding rod. I'll give that a try. Thanks!

Typically guys run out of room with a slider because the fletching hits the housing, not because the bar is too short to get that low.

I'd separate them out and use the top pointer wherever you end up putting it. It really won't make a difference as long as you're consistent in using the same pin and same pointer when making your marks.

Before you remove the masking tape, make note of what distance the top pointer is on. Line up the top pointer with the distance on the sight tape that matches whatever distance you locked in before removing the masking tape

So I think you’re overthinking it unless you wanna be at 20 and can only go 30. I don’t use a fast Eddie at this time but do shoot two pin sliders. My first pin or static distance is 25 then I dial down until I find 60 make my marks on a clear tape then line up the tape that matches then I adjust my 2nd pin or 3rd if I went back to that set up as needed for their own distances

Are you wanting a 20 yard pin? Or planning to have your top pin be 30?

If trying to get more adjustment to set your top pin to 20. 1) move housing up as has been suggested, resight pins after housing adjustments and voila 20 yard pin. 2) Install calibration tape and complete instructions at 60 yards for finished sight tape. 3) Once your sight tape is installed move the remaining sight indicators to the yardage that correlates with those pins location.

If your wanting to keep 30 yard top pin.....

1) install calibration tape with pin indicator set on calibration tape "20" while sight is set at fixed location.

2) add 40 yards 30+40=70

3) use the corresponding tape.

4) adjust other indicators to match corresponding pins and yardages

This method has been on or very close every time and is quick and easy. Occasionally marks will be off a fuzz and a more accurate tape can be pulled either direction if needed.
